  • 10 months later...

This will be my last post...and as such will probably be lengthy, but I ask that

you bear with me.

Before I say anything else, I feel firmly pressed to address some things that

have been said...and to voice a few explanations. Once I have said my peace, It

should not be spoken of again...for the sake of everyone in the group...these

unnecessary blowouts are destructive to an environment that is supposed to be

uplifting, caring and educational. Over the years I have seen a few individuals

who come and go, but leave toxic waste in their wake. This needs to stop.

Now, I want to begin with s posts . I don't know how clearer I can

possibly be with such a short sentence...nor can I fathom how it could be

miscontrued in the way it has. It seems that only ONE person seems to have

trouble understanding what I wrote, and I have tried to clarify MANY times now,

and every time I do I am mocked and disrespected further by this person.

For the LAST time ... and I'm going to back up to the very beginning so

you will hopefully get it!

" Who's paying for this? As I last knew, the prodisc was like the others, still

in clinical trials. As such, it is only available here for ONE level, and no

other levels can be fused or even diseased or need surgery. "

Followed by another lengthy and borderline rude response by , telling me

he was indeed having it paid for by his insurance, to which I then responded...

" Its probably because you are in Europe..I don't think it's passed FDA here

yet...but I could be wrong! "

Now, for anyone who does not understand this...it became obvious to me that he

was having surgery in Germany because the TYPE of surgery he is having...and the

fact that he is having insurance pay for it. In the US, the surgery is only FDA

cleared for clinical trial and as such, health insurance is not paying for it

(except on a rare case by case basis when the MD battles it out with them). The

disc replacement trials also do not allow for multi-level Pro-Disc

implants...which further led me to believe he was having it done in Germany, as

I know they have been doing such surgeries there for quite some time. I can

assure that if he were not already stationed there, he would not be having this

surgery paid for, and would likely not be having it at all unles he had the

cash.

Why still cannot understand the simplicity of those words...I do not

understand..and honestly it isn't my problem.

Also, please note the use of " I could be wrong " ...for those of you who think I

think I know everything. Those who have been on here for years have seen that I

am always ready to admit when I have found out I was inaccurate and/or just

plain wrong. So no, I do NOT think I know everything. I sure as heck know a

lot...and thats not being boastful. I have taken my 16 years of pain as well

as my occupational experience, and tried to turn it into something that will

help someone else in a way that I WISH I HAD BEEN. There are many times I don't

feel like answering a question that I have already answered twenty times

before...but we have new members all the time. I tell myself that I just won't

answer this one again...but then I actually feel GUILTY if I don't. They need

their questions answered, so I answer yet again. And yes, I have devoted a lot

of my miniscule spare time trying to help people on here...for no other reasons

than I have been in their shoes

and I want them to have the info they need to be empowered to help themselves.

Info that I never had.

I also want to address why included the following sentence in his

scathing email...and it's ME people are jumping all over...

" So, you dumb FUCK! You are showing how stupid you are. "

Still people are coming out of the woodwork to slam me for asking the group to

decide if we are a bunch of babies who cant handle that other people have

disagreements that DON'T include them...or are we going to toughen up a little

and mind our own buisness...

And yes ...many surgeons DO travel over the world to teach surgery...I

never said many travel to teach Pro-Disc...I said many travel to teach. And many

spine surgeons travel to teach. Why did I even make that comment....because you

needed to be taken down a notch. A traveling teaching surgeon does not make him

great. His skill and decision making behind closed doors make him great or not.

And ask how many people on here believe that their spine surgeon is one of the

" Best in the country " or " One of the best in the world " . Trust me, many people

do. Even people in back-woods states and communities...where the worlds best

surgeons do not practice.

, many people on here will give me credibility. You are a new voice with a

big mouth amongst some who've been here a long time. I've seen people like you

come and go, and you won't be the last one.

My words are not gospel, and I would hope are never taken that way. I am human,

and human is to be fallible. And I do not have a lot of time to keep up on the

newest data...which is one reason why I am always ready to be wrong. And I will

try my best not to lose any sleep over the fact that I do not impress you...

And trust me, there are a LOT of things I have shared that one will not find

anywhere on the internet. One might be surprised how little of the knowledge a

spine surgeon has ,he ever shares with his patients. But I asked questions, I

watched what they did...I LEARNED from some of the best... I was suprprised how

complicated the spine is and how little people (like me) knew about it. this is

why I share it here.

And just so you know ( and you can ask any nurse or doctor at any teaching

hospital to verify this) medical students know diddly squat. Nurses know FAR

more about medicine than the lowly medical student. They are treated even lower

than housekeeping in the hospital. Actually...I'd LOVE some examples of what

your wife has done that is " far more than what I have done " . Just out of

curiosity. Medical school is NOT where they learn to be physicians. THAT is done

in residency. Kudos to your wife for deciding to go to medical school, even

though the future for docs is bleak...I hope she does well. But man, don't add

in about your wife being in medical school as any credibility. That just made

you look ridiculous. And trust me...there was a LOT more to my job description

than holding retractors and sucking blood. That was really ignorant of you to

mention...how do you even know what my title was? Hmm? Do you know my

background? My education? Learn to stop while

the stopping is good...ok?

I don't recall anyone questioning my experience, and at no point did I feel

defensive. Just to lay that straight. And no, I haven't WRITTEN any books

yet...but I am CURRENTLY writing one...thanks for asking!

As far as attacking my " people skills " I see patients in the office and treat

them on my own for the most part...and they now prefer to see me because of my

empathy and respectful manner with patients. But this is not a doctors

office...and I have the right to, on occasion, tell someone what I think of

them. Do I think is 'simple'..yes I do. Apparently has a think skull as

well. And 'simple' was the nicest way I could think of saying it, compared to

what I was thinking. This website is for adults. As adults, disagreements should

always be allowed. They should always be respectful, in a perfect world...but if

not, I don't feel others should take personal offense to things said to another

individual....with the exception of vulgar language like s' use of the " F

word " . And no, I don't think we NEED to be courteous to one another. Would it be

nice, sure. But if someone is going to start questioning my intelligence, my

integrity, my honesty and

my professionalism...if someone is going to be snide and rude...I DO have a

right to be DIS-courteous to them...without everyone getting their panties in a

bunch. Got that Mystic-Maidenxx?

AND I do think that could have emailed me personally if he wanted to rant

on the way he did, and keep it off the posts.

Now that I got most of that off my chest, I will continue with saying my

farewells.

I'm tired. Tired of trying to help people who refuse to help themselves. Tired

of answering the same questions over and over again. Tired of caring. Tired of

dealing with " difficult " people.

I have met some fantastic people on here who have touched my life in ways I

didn't expect. I hope that I have done the same for others. It's time for me to

leave. I am going to focus on my writing and I will always be available to those

who would like to email me personally. tpowell1977@....

I wish the best for ALL of you on your journey/fight to a pain free life.

Best,

in RI

I have not been a member very long but have always been impressed with

I have been on this list for approximately six months. I am also a member of

several other lists on various topics. I have two questions:

1)Where is the moderator on this list? should have been immediately

banned for his comment and use of the word FUCK. That would have happened on any

other list.

If a person can't be civilized in their responses... and that means avoiding the

use of profane language...then they should be thrown off the list.

2)Why is he still being allowed to post to this list?

So calling someone a douche is okay? Go back and read all the posts, I did not

call names or use the " F " word until she was so offended by me expressing my

opinion and felt the need to call me names.

I dont post often but I can say the few questions I have asked has helped

me tremendously in the questions I have asked. all I can say is Please

don't leave the group as we will be missing a BIG part of the group. If you do

leave we will miss a big and important person that has a wealth of knowledge..

Thank you

Subject: My last post...

This will be my last post...and as such will probably be

lengthy, but I ask that you bear with me.

I have taken my 16 years of pain as well as

my occupational experience, and tried to turn it into something that will help

someone else in a way that I WISH I HAD BEEN. There are many times I don't feel

like answering a question that I have already answered twenty times before...but

we have new members all the time. I tell myself that I just won't answer this

one again...but then I actually feel GUILTY if I don't. They need their

questions answered, so I answer yet again. And yes, I have devoted a lot of my

miniscule spare time trying to help people on here...for no other reasons than I

have been in their shoes

and I want them to have the info they need to be empowered to help themselves.

Best,

in RI

I watched all the garbage back and forth and the hate spewing. I have not seen

anything from lately, so I am hoping his " f " bomb got him booted. We are

here to support each other, you bring somethings to the table others don't and

others bring things you don't. It is a give and take. I too hope you

reconsider. It was one of those tirades that in my humble opinion got out of

control. I have been one of those people who post things after I have taken

meds and the next morning wish I could " unring that bell " . Even if that is not

what happened here, it is enough to give you pause not to leave. There are

people who need ALL of us at this table...whether we always agree or not.

Personal attacks, as you said, should be deleted and not read. They have NO

validity here.

, I sincerely hope you will reconsider leaving the group. A lot

of us who have been on here for a while have come to rely on your

responses to people's questions. Please reconsider and stay with us!!
