Guest guest
Sheila, if Virginia is anything like Wisconsin, your county should have a Medicaid office. I went to the government listing in the front of my phone book and there was a listing for Medicaid. I just called and they sent me the application packet. Incidently, I don't know if you are applying for an adult or a child but, in our state, they have a special program within Medicaid called Beckett which applies to individuals under 21 only. It differs from standard Medicaid in that you qualify based on the severity of the disability, not income. I was told that with Medicaid in our state, if we owned a car let alone a house, we wouldn't qualify. On the other hand, because my son meets certain criteria of disability, he does qualify for Beckett. Not sure if I am explaining that very well but if you are interested in Medicaid for a child, you may want to ask about whether they have a child-specific program within Medicaid. Good luck! Guest guest
Lynn, Thanks for posting this email regarding the " Beckett waiver " for medicaid. I looked it up online and Connecticut does participate in it and my son probably would qualify however in Connecticut the number of recipients are limited to 125 for the entire state! P.S. The " Theratogs " suit for is working out very well. See below for Connecticut Medicaid Beckett info: .. Waiver for other persons with disabilities at risk of institutionalization The Model Waiver (otherwise known as Beckett Waiver) is administered by the DSS Medical Operations unit. Once accepted onto the program, the individual (or his or her their family) chooses a home health agency which is responsible for assessing the individual's needs and developing a plan of care. The primary purpose of this waiver is to waive the community Medicaid rules (and allow individuals to qualify for Medicaid under the more generous financial rules used for institutionalized persons.) The primary beneficiaries are children with disabilities who would qualify for Medicaid in an institution but whose parents' income would normally disqualify them for Medicaid in the community. The only service offered under this waiver is case management (provided by the home health agency.) However, individuals benefit from access to full Medicaid coverage including home health services. This waiver is limited to only 125 persons and there is a long waiting list. Dave Snow > > Hi, > > > > I live in Virginia. Guest guest
125 children total??!! That is ludicrous! Sorry to have given anyone false hope. I wasn't aware that some states restricted the program in such a severe manner. I am SO SO SO glad to hear the Theratog is working for . Isn't it wonderful to see something so relatively inexpensive that can give these children a little boost? Glad I could help in this small way. Lynn > > > Hi, > > > > > > I live in Virginia. Guest guest
Yeah, Virginia is like 45th in the country to help out people with disabilities. But I was wondering like do you have to be declared disabled by the SSA to get Medicaid. I live in the Shenandoah Valley, like 60 miles west of DC. I would love to live in VA Beach!! You are so lucky!!!1 Dawn E.
