Guest guest
Not looking forward to that pain but so far this has been going really well for me (all things considered).>>> Glad your home JennH and doing well May your recovery only continue to go faster and be plum over before you realize it. When you go to doing that PT girl... you just remember back where you were before surgery~ you've already came a very long way.... the worst is over just keep saying to yourself.... everyday is a better day. I kept a journal during my recovery..... so on my really crappy days of being stiff & sore after PT.... I would read back & remember~ PUT ON A HUGE SMILE and know how far I'd come. Best of lucky sweetie~

Guest guest
I plan on it. I hate missing church, but there is no way I'm going to be up to going for a couple weeks. We have homecoming the 21st so I should be able to make it then if I really take care of myself. I am in some pain, which is totally normal, but I am feeling great. I just popped a couple pain pills so I'll get relief shortly. I am going to move to the recliner in just a bit, because this computer desk is not made for someone who has had knee surgery. I have my foot propped up but it still hurts a bit. I think I need another chair, as I keep scooting down in this one and if I'm not really still it rolls and that hurts some. I can borrow a folding chair and a small stool from church for a while. I'll keep you guys updated on my progress each day. Guest guest
Hi lee, I'm doing pretty well, although I do tire more easily right now. As soon as I finish going through my emails I'm going to rest a while. I'm hurting but at least this is pain I know will go away eventually. I'm taking my pain med and, so far, getting good service from it. Thanks for the well wishes. Take care, lee <gone2thedogs14@...> wrote: Welcome home! Guest guest
Hey there, You want the whole sordid story from the start? I got to the hospital Monday morning at 5:15 am EDT. I waited about 15 minutes till they called me back to the surgery unit, and I got ready. My family was allowed to be with me for a bit, and my daughter walked to the holding area with me. My OS came and talked to me and prayed with me ( He is a Christian man and believes in prayer), then the anesthesiologist came in. After a short talk about what to expect, the nurse started my IV and they gave me some "happy juice." My daughter gave me a kiss, and someone showed her out. I was about out of it when they took me to the OR. I don't remember anything else until Monday evening. From that point until yesterday, I was treated wonderfully by everyone there. I tried not to be demanding but anything I needed was taken care of. All the nurses and techs said I was an excellent patient. The girls from PT were great and they kept me working all week. They taught me how to manage the transfer to the bathtub and anything else I needed. I got practice in the stairwell with crutches too, because we live in a second floor apartment. I prefer a walker inside because I feel more stable with it. If there is anything else you want to know just ask. As for the damage in my knee, the OS said that I had moderate to mild-severe damage everywhere, but behind my kneecap and at the end of the femur was bone on bone, which he called severe damage. That was where all my pain and trouble was. I start outpatient PT next week. I will be going to a facility I have used before, with a familiar therapist. She is very gentle but she will make me work. Take care, a <pbear53@...> wrote: Welcome Home , How did it go Tell all!!! Your still in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. Rest lots don't over do it!! Guest guest
Hey, they videotape the services for another guy who can't come because of severe emphysema and COPD. The poor fella just can't breathe well at all. I checked on getting a copy of the tape. So, that is taken care of. My church family is wonderful. I still get tired quickly, but I'm doing a little better. My knee and leg are swelling a good bit if I'm up at the desk too long. Today it's been swollen all day. I'm getting ready to put my ice bag back in the freezer for a while. Take care, SassyLouYou@... wrote: I hate missing church, but there is no way I'm going to be up to going for a couple weeks. >>> Maybe you could contact a few of your church members and request that they come to your home and share the details of the service with you on Monday evening. Kinda an in home 2 or more gathered in his name deal and have you a nice visit but share a few Bible verses & thoughts together. Fellowship can be done anywhere. If you don't feel up to it though.... it's very understandable and a couple of weeks isn't such a long wait~ count the days you've got behind ya.... they tend to add up quicker then the ones ahead of ya~ least always has for me. LOLI'll keep you guys updated on my progress each day.>>> You sound to be doing great ~ I'm tickled for ya and hope each day passes a lil faster then the one before it during your recovery process. Think positive, find a smile and everything else will fall into place just as it's supppose to. Make yourself a terrific day.

One of the ladies from church called me a bit ago to check in on me. I will have all kinds of hugs when I get back. They and God are so good. Guest guest
Hello all: I think we all have a tendency to try too hard at our first home PT. - we want so much to be done! I had a total hip, and had something to share: While in hospital, I had heel pain only on my operated side, and so got a waffle boot. This is a air cushion to keep your heel off the bed. Once at home, my un operated heel also started being really painful. My husband found the boot on-line, but it was going to take a week to get here, when I thought of kids blow up swimmies. We got a pair of these swim rings, I blow them up and put them on the ankle of the foot that need to be raised off the bed. They work! (at a cost of $1.99 vs $50). I had my staples out yesterday...now I have 72 tiny holes...and a 12 " incision site! I learned four more exercises ....and feel a lot more mobile. Even while at the computer I have been doing toe heel rocks and other sitting exercises... This helps me not to stiffen up. Guest guest
Hi , Glad to hear there is someone else here who has a big scar. And thanks for the tip as I am one who often gets sore heels if I am in bed long. If you haven't added your details here is how to do it: To add your details you need to go to the list home page Joint Replacement then click on database (left hand side), Click on THR, click on add record, and add your details. Please add a separate entry for every operation. Guest guest
Wonderful news Barb, I am so happy for you :0) Glad to hear the headaches have gone away. From: ellijaygal <ellijaygal@...> Subject: Home from the hospital spinal problems Date: Monday, June 8, 2009, 9:47 AM I am finally home from having my 3rd surgery in 3 years. One was a cervical fusion and this one being my second tethered spinal cord surgery. It was attached in three places but only one had actual nerve/spinal cord attachment. Which was good news. I leaked a lot of csf during surgery and have been home since Friday but couldn't look at the computer because of the spinal headache. Geesh those things are like migraines x5!! Now I am just dealing with the nerve pain from them cutting on the spinal cord but my toes/legs still WORK yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eee. Still very weak, walking with a cane all the fun things that come with normal back surgery, but did I mention my toes/legs work? Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers they meant so very much to me. Barb
Guest guest
Barb, So glad to hear you are home and doing so well. So glad everything works!!! I know how those spinal headaches are, I've had three. I think they are worse than childbirth...and have done that three times too...with NO pain meds. I hope yours subsides soon. Happy healing, try to take it easy. --- in RI From: ellijaygal <ellijaygal@...> Subject: Home from the hospital spinal problems Date: Monday, June 8, 2009, 12:47 PM I am finally home from having my 3rd surgery in 3 years. Guest guest
, I had a child totally natural too and I'd much rather do that than have a csf leak headache! My God that was horrible. They thought I was " out of it " at the hospital from pain medication but my head hurt so bad I couldn't even talk!! So they removed my medication for 24 hours with that horrid headache until I could finally tell them what was going on. Wow, never EVER EVER want to have another one. Has taken me a week to totally get over. Finally got up this morning with pressure in my head but I wouldn't call it a headache. Now I just have to learn to deal with the severe nerve pain for a few months (anyone with severe nerve pain knows how nothing really knocks it out just knocks the edge off of it). I'm taking Bacolefen and that is helping some. I'll be glad when it's back down to just taking flexeril for it.
