Food sensitivities cause canker sores. Do a search on gluten, canker sores and

dairy, canker sores and do some reading.

Gluten cause mine.....my real problem, however, is severe leaky gut.

A naturopath can help you get to the bottom of this problem really fast.

Subject: Canka sores

Hi there,

My husband stopped smoking a few years ago and now has canker sores in his mouth

on a daily basis. We have tried many things and nothing works. He also has

terrible heartburn. The heartburn has always been there but the mouth sores

started shortly after he quit smoking.

He went to the doctors and they want to put him on steroids all the time. He

did it once and the sores did go away.

If anyone has experience with this or suggestions...we are grateful.

Some days he can barely eat or even talk.

Thank you,

Janet

My Mother and brother had these for years. The doctor even gave them shots

for some childhood disease because they said the disease was the same virus

as what caused the cancer sores. The shots did nothing.

Joan's post on food sensitivities makes perfect sense, though I had never

heard of this connection before. The reason I say it makes sense is because

both my mother and brother were cured of cancer sores (which they had almost

constantly, usually several at a time) was by long term intake of

acidophilus. For my brother it took about 6 months and for my Mom about a

year and a half. If she stopped taking it, the sores would come back.

After about a year and a half, she was able to stop taking it and never had

to take it again.

Acidophilus is a bacteria in the gut--which apparently was missing in my 2

family members. Once supplied, the good gut bacteria kept the virus under

control. And since food sensitivities come because the gut flora isn't

correct (or there is leaky gut--which again, long term probiotics will cure)

then Joan's advice is spot on.

So I would advise him to not only take acidophilus, but my brother had found

a product called Lysodophilus and Friends--it had many of the probiotics in

it. Since this was probably about 30 years ago, hardly anyone knew anything

about probiotics. Today we know how vital they are, and you have MANY

choices as to what product to take.

Both my son and I get Canka sores from Walnuts. We have no other

allergic-type reaction to any tree nuts, so go figure!

I would get a probiotic with acidophilous and bifidous.....they support each

other and change the bowel ecology making it more supportive of the good guys

verus candida or other less jpro-bowel types. While one is taking probiotics it

is good to also take some inulin which is basically food fiber that they good

guys like to live on. Inulin is very inexpensive and comes in powder or tabs.

Ditto on the food sensitivities. What canker sores *are* is IgA antibodies

attacking the inside of the mouth. I.e. autoimmune disease. I had them most

of my life. I haven't had ANY since I went gluten and casein free, except

once or twice when I ate gluten accidentally. My daughter and husband

stopped getting them too. Eeesh, they

are painful! The diet is worth it for getting rid of them if nothing else!

There are two prongs of attack:

1. Make sure the mucus lining of the mouth is intact. What disrupts it is

often toothpaste, esp. Crest for some reason. Our family always avoided

Crest!

Baking soda, neem bark mixed with cloves, or some " natural " toothpaste

helps a lot of people.

2. Try avoiding the common food allergens for a bit. The usual ones that

cause canker sores are gluten and casein ... canker sores are considered

a common symptom of celiac. Someone described celiac as " canker sores

of the gut " ... it's about the same thing, IgA attacking the gut tissue.

Since

he has stomach problems too, he really should be tested. There is a saliva

test now to test for anti-gliadin IgA in the saliva I think?

3. Canker sores are also a common symptom of lupus, which tends to

go along with celiac. So one question is: do they get worse when he

is in the sunlight a lot?

4. Probiotics do help with leaky gut. But if the leaky gut is caused by

gliadin (Google " Fasano zonulin " for the mechanism of that) then it

is really important to avoid gluten too: getting rid of the symptoms isn't

a cure.

Hi there

Try MMS (Miracle Mineral Solution) from Jim Humble...it's the only thing that

cured this for good.

Janet,

You may want to try Habucha to pinpoint canker sores and indigestion problem

and detoxication,eye,liver and intestine cleanser.

You can google " habucha " . It is a tea with herb mix.

It is not expensive.

You may want to try with rice vinegar solution to clean and swish mouth.

You may also want to try nukazuke picklings and take some pinch of nukazuke bed.

It has zinc, iron, copper minerals, VB1,B2,VE,IP6.

I have heard that eggplant nukzuke heals internal mouth sores.

You also can clear up heartburn when you pickle veges with skins on.

Daikon radish nukazuke is a quick solution.

Daikon has diastase enzyme will neutralize the acidity,I think.

Green tea is good to drink and wash mouth,it also has VC and katekin.

Honey is antiviral and good to paint on the spot.

hope this helps,

isao

In Ayurvdeda, canker sores and heartburn are both symptoms of too much pitta or

fire energy. Cut out salty, pungent and sour (fermented, citrus and especially

tomatoes) foods. Eat more bitter (herbs and greens), sweet (that does not mean

double cheesecake but most fruits and veggies, grains and legumes) and

astringent ( Beans, lentils (dhals), turmeric, cruciferous vegetables such as

cauliflower and cabbage, cilantro) foods.

I just started a Ginger Beer Plant ferment with Holy Basil (tulsi), dry

papya, and ginger. I was trying the tulsi and an anti-inflammatory,

but whil elooking up it's properties, I found that it is also used for

canka sores. The suggestion I read was to rub the powder on the sore

and/or use it as a tooth powder.

just an FYI.

It is entirely up to you what to use for canker but I would not do the ginger

beer ferment. I know this forum is for microbial nutrition which includes

ferments. Ferments can be very good foods and very healing but they are not a

panacea. Here is a quote from an Ayurvedic site.

Ayurveda suggests that canker sores manifest in people with high pitta. Follow a

pitta-soothing diet, avoiding hot, spicy foods and fermented food. Also avoid

strong alcoholic drinks, as they may aggravate the sores.

Here is the link with some remedies like neem leaf, which is a bitter herb.

Bitter is better for healing pitta. Your choice of tulsi basil is a good one.

Other good remedies are hydrogen peroxide on the canker and alum is another

because it is astringent. Ginger is another top notch herb but it is spicy

although mildly spicy.

Best wishes with this

My husband got canker sores ALL the time until we stopped using tooth paste and

gluten. Not sure which did it. He eats gluten now and rarely ever gets one.

We had already been following an NT diet for a few yrs. We did a healing diet

like Bee's/GAPS as well for almost a yr. Which focus on balancing proper gut

flora etc. We ate and drank lots of ferments. But i noticed the most after

removing toothpastes.

Nothing to do with microbial nutrition, but to get RID of canker sores, the

easiest way is to gargle with Listerine. Someone turned me on to that some

time ago. I'd guess Neem would work too if you have it around (I do, but I

don't get canker sores since I stopped eating gluten, and I didn't have Neem

around before then)
