Guest guest
Hi, The stomach flu is going around in our area. 4 out of 6 of us have had it. Just wondering if anyone has had success avoiding it? Also wondering if anyone has a recipe for regaining electrolytes when on the mend. Here's one I have used ... 2 TB raw apple cider vinegar 2 TB unsulphered molasses 1-2 TB raw honey 1/4 tsp celctic or Real salt 1 qt. water Mix first 4 ingredients. Add water. ~ Lynn -- Michel and Lynn Therrien 626 Temple Road Latrobe, PA 15650
Guest guest
No stomach flu here...thankfully! Wish I could say I have a recipe for success...I take several vitamins and minerals and probiotics daily and get plenty of fresh air outdoors (I am in Michigan, so it is cold here). The electrolyte recipe you give sounds nice....I just put celtic sea salt in water most every day. Honey is anti-bacterial and ACV is good for digestion... Guest guest
Hello Lynn, We (my wife, my 17 yr. old daughter, my 15 yr. old son, and I) have not had any stomach flu for at least six or seven years now. There have been times when I have felt off for a few hours, but it has never developed beyond that. Our secret is supporting our immune system and intestinal flora with the best nutrients and probiotics available. (At least so far as I know.) Because I sell the various things I credit with my deliverance from my used-to-be annual bout with the crud, I will not mention more specifically. Regarding your electrolyte solution, I would include some bone broth. I would also delete the molasses and honey because I have noticed that when I had such things in my diet, I was much more susceptible to colds and flu. Now, we use no sugar, honey, molasses, or other sweetener.. If anyone wants to know details of what we have done that keeps flu and colds away, contact me off list. However, I hope I have given you some useful information if you are not interested in the particulars. Guest guest
I always rely on my old standby: bone broth. Drink a cup of it each day to keep my immune system up and if I feel something coming on, up it to 3 cups a day. I've also recently heard that juicing with a masicating (it is that the right word?) juicer is really good, too. The idea behind the juice and the bone broth is that the nutrients are so readily available and your doesn't have to work hard to get them, so the body can use its energy to fight off or recover. In your recipe, I would make sure the molasses is organic because the processing in non-organic is horrible! And make sure the honey is from bees that are within 50 miles of your home. Guest guest
I'd avoid the molasses. Most " bugs " do love iron. Many antibiotics work by sequestering iron so the bugs can't get it. My cure-all for stomach ailments is bentonite clay ... it does contain iron, but it also sequesters iron, which makes it kind of an anomaly. No one has remained sick longer than 4 hours though, when we've used it. Use 1/4 tsp. in some water, drink it down. Do another 1/4 tsp. half an hour later, if the person still feels sick. The second cure-all is ginger. I keep some fresh ginger that has been sliced and stored in rice vinegar. Chop it and make it into tea. Cures a lot of things, including migraines and motion sickness. ACV does great things too. Making an electrolyte drink with it isn't a bad idea, but we haven't tried it. I do mix ACV in equal amounts with honey, to cure hiccups. Guest guest
Bone broth is a staple here, several doses a week. I probably don't get as much as I could though in household of 6. Guest guest
www.pascalite.com. But they sell it in many health food stores these days. Any bentonite is helpful. Kaolin clay might be too, but I haven't worked with it. Oddly, bentonite DOES contain iron, but it seems to be a very un-bioavailable form of it. Clay tends to chelate iron, and people who eat clay tend to get anemia. Guest guest
Anyone ever tried Diatomaceous Earth? I've not kept up with this forum recently, been very busy, so if anyone has already suggested it, Sorry!! But it'll kill a lot of soft bodied insects, so it seems to me that it might help inside the body. I put a touch of it in my cats' water bowl, and the maie no longer has small egg-like drops out his rectum that the vet can see. He, the vet, used to love to give the cat expensive shots for internal worms! Granny Pat in CA
