Blossom End of Cucumbers

Hi. I just tryed to make my first batch of Fermented Cucumbers, and it did not

turn out too well. The pickles got mushy and slimy, and that was after only a

few days in a Harsch crock. I am thinking it might have to do with the fact that

I was uncertain what it meant to cut off the blossom end of the cucumbers. I

thought perhaps that meant to cut off any blossom remaining on it, but now I'm

beginning to believe that it may have meant to chop a bit of the cucumber

itself. :-( Would anyone be able to clarify this for me? Thanks!
