Guest guest
Hi All, I am a newbie here, and new at fermenting (just the last few months) and LOVE it. We have major gut/allergy issues over here and this seemed perfect to get all the good 'bugs' in our systems. But the big HOWEVER is that yeast is one of my biggest allergens, and despite eating yummy fermented foods over the last few months, I have gotten worse, not better. And every time I removed fermented foods from my diet, I get better. And it isn't just detox symptoms, I am sure (I blood tested postive to yeast allergy). My youngest (1 yr old) son asked for pickles tonight and his face turned bright red everywhere the brine touched his skin, and it didn't go away for hours. So obviously HE has the same reaction to yeasts that I do. I am really feeling stuck with healing the gut when I can't eat what would be most beneficial, the good bugs. So, I am looking for suggestions, stories, anything that has helped you or a loved one heal, and how one can move past such allergies and eat really good, healthy food. ANY help, links, thoughts, advice.......gossip (lol) appreciated. Thank you- Lindsey
Guest guest
My favorite " healers " at the moment are glucomannan and bentonite. Yeast IS a big issue for people, esp. people with gluten intolerance .... yeast (esp. candida) and gluten share a peptide string so the body gets sorta confused. Glucomannan and bentonite both share the property that they glom on to this peptide, which is sticky and irritating. I don't eat wheat on purpose, ever, but I do eat yeast. I also take a mix of the above with each meal. My basic mix is: - 1/2 cup psyllium (metamucil: this is basically a carrier but it might be good in it's own right). - 1 tsp. glucomannan powder - 1 tsp. bentonite Mix it all up. When you are ready to eat, take 1 tsp of that mixture, sprinkle it on a cup of water and mix ...drink it down fast. Otherwise it turns into jello. Some people actually LIKE the jello version, but I don't. Then eat your meal as per normal. Glucomannan appears to be healing all by it's lonesome ... it helps eczema and arthritis in dogs and mice, anyway. Also helps with blood glucose regulation. But I take it for digestion issue (which it's also shown to be good for, in the lab). Bentonite, ditto. It's kind of a stopgap til your immune system gets better, but it works for me! Guest guest
HI LINDSEY! HAVE YOY TRIED WITH LENTIL REJUVELAC? IT IS DETOXIFYING AND ENZYME ENRICHING AND FULL OF VITAMINS. I EVEN THINK WHEAT REJUVELAC DOESN´T HOLD GLUTEN BUT AM NOT SO SURE. KOMBUCHA? DOES HAVE YEAST THOUGH... AND ALSO, WHICH IS NOT FERMENTED BUT SMALL GROWTH ANYWAY, WHEATGRASS (IT DOESN´T CONTAIN GLUTEN) AND IS PRETTY NON YEASTY (THE MINERALS AND ENZYMES ARE THE GRASS´. GOOD FOR DIGESTIVE TRACT AND NTI-CANCERIGENOUS, PLUS MUCH MORE. ALSO, BE CAREFUL OF MIXING OR EATING DAIRY TOO CLOSE IN TIME TO SOME OTHER FERMENTS BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE DON´T PROCESS IT PROPERLY. BEAR IN MIND DAIRY TAKES ABOUT FOUR HOURS AT LEAST TO BE DIGESTED (SOM DOCTORS SAY THE WHOLE PROCESS TAKES 24 HOURS!) HOPE IT COMES IN HANDYA. Guest guest
If you're looking to re-balance intestinal flora, there are several excellent high-cell-count, high-strain-count probiotics out there that contain absolutely no yeast at all. The one I've used has ten strains and 50 billion cell count. This helps balance the intestinal tract excellently if there is an imbalance. Do you know if you have a systemic candida issue as well? Blood testing for this seems sparse, since too many doctors do not take the condition seriously, despite the proliferation of yeast-based diseases since the inception of antibiotics. I almost never eat yeast-containing or gluten-containing foods by default, just as part of my overall health plan. It has served me very very well, with low bodyfat and excellent energy levels. I thing absolutely everyone should experiment with elimination of both to see how they feel. It can often be dramatic. Tim, aka facelessfatloss on youtube " In the Moment. " .. Guest guest
I don't know if health food stores have glucomannan yet ... they might. I get that from miraclenoodles.com. Psyllium is pretty standard, and you can get a commercial version as Metamucil in any pharmacy (some people don't like that brand because it has food coloring and a couple of other less natural things in it). Bentonite they sell in health food stores these days, or you can buy it online. BTW it's really difficult to read all caps ... Guest guest
There always is the potential that bentonite could absorb something you don't want absorbed (esp. medications). But it has been studied extensively for animal husbandry, and it doesn't in general cause the animals to lose nutrients ... rather the reverse, they absorb nutrients better and grow faster. A lot of foods you eat DO prevent some nutrients from being absorbed though. Sometimes that's even a good thing: your body dumps stuff into the bile, which gloms onto fiber and gets excreted. I think I read once that something like 30% of the food energy a person eats never gets used. Guest guest
According to the Living Clay company, and the clay list I belong to, clay does not absorb minerals. Some clay even deposits minerals in the body when taken internally. Liquid clay--one ounce dry clay to 8 ounces water, shake for a few minutes, let sit for an hour or so, then shake again--taken in small doses twice or 3 times a day can really help with gut issues and any organ toxins. The dose is one ounce for adults and less for children. Guest guest
Lindsey, I follow the Indian Ayurvedic system. Basically they use 6 " tastes " and use the tastes according to each individual energy or dosha. For instance a predominately pitta person has fire and water energy or " steam " , which occurs in rashes, fevers, acute symptoms, etc. The tastes of sour (most anything fermented), salt and pungent aggravate the pitta or make it hotter. They need cooling foods like sweet(most fruits and veggies and grains and beans), bitter and astringent foods. This is not an allergic reaction to foods per se but could be. Tomatoes, peppers and nightshades also fall into the sour category. Here is more info. www.mapi.com/en/pages/pitta.html GB > > Hi All, > I am a newbie here, and new at fermenting (just the last few months) and > LOVE it. Guest guest
Depends what you define as a " mineral " . Technically clay gloms onto some metals and organics ... in general the ones it gloms onto aren't ones you want (mercury, for instance). Guest guest
maybe it's just me being vile and cynical but I tend not to take much notice of the material published by the seller. Stuff published by those with no commercial interest is more objective I think and more likely to give you the down side. With testimonials you have no idea whether the person really exists, or, if they do, whether they are the sort of person whose ideas you would consider for a second if you met them in real life. I've had this conversation before about clay with and we agreed that the clay won't be able to distinguish toxins (baddies) from good guys. It will just do it's thing. That may be what we want, it may not. Some minerals are good guys (calcium) some are bad guys (cadmium, lead, mercury etc). These ideas are human constructs. The only organ it should get anywhere near is your gut. Sally. Gaiacita wrote: > According to the Living Clay company, and the clay list I belong to, clay > does not absorb minerals. Guest guest
Right. Seems some of the clays deposit things like calcium (good) and sodium (not so good if you get too much) while taking out mercury. There's suppose to be a high mineral content clay from France that supposedly leaves a lot of the trace minerals in your system, but I don't know much about it. Guest guest
Hi Lindsey... Just to chime in, " yes, " some have said that bentonite clay is known to leach mineral content. It's still up for debate, as many forms of bentonite are mineral RICH, so the speculation is confusing in this regard. I promote it's use during fasting as a one-time thing, and then sporadically thru-out the year just for colon cleansing. There's no question that it's great at pulling gunk off intestinal walls, esp during a fast. I use crystal salt to compensate for any mineral issues. And during a fast, if one is using salt water enemas, altho you'll get evacuation, you'll also hopefully derive some benefit from the massive salt intake thru absorption as well. Most all of of my mineral content comes from crystal salt, esp trace. Good organic or better foods take care of the rest, along with some topical magnesium for good measure. Guest guest
Hi . This has been talked about a lot on the clay list and the consenses from everyone is no, it does not interfere with septic systems at all. One person even said it seemed to make her septic work better. But as far as any clogs or slowing of the septic, no. Not one person on the list has reported that it hurt the septic tanks or fields or pipes in any way. This is from doing clay baths--not the way talks about where you are literally sitting in damp clay, but just putting a half cup to a cup or so of clay into your bath, plus using clay for masks and washing this down the sink. Samala, -------Original Message------- I went to Eyton's site it was very informative, I do have one question has anyone had bad effects from the clay not on themselves but your septic system. I would love to take a bath with the clay but afraid what it will do to the septic system. I do not want to clog the drainage field.
Guest guest
LENTIL REJUVELAC: 3/4 CUP LENTILS1 LTR. (GOOD QUALITY) WATER1/2 LEEMON INTO JUICE *sprout the lentils: - first leave to hidrate for 8 hours. they´ll swell to 1cup) - wash and leave in a stainless or plastic strainer for 3 days (rinse 3 to 4 times a day to prevent unwanted micoorganisms from developing) *pour srouts and water into a glass container and leave to ferment for 24 to 48 hours. then strain and keep the liquid: REJUVELAC. most recipes tell you to throw away the lentils, but i rarely do. just stir fry them for some minutes and eat them, though they are´nt as nutricious as normal sprouts. also, bare in mind the wheat grass. regards, a. I can't do kombucha, though I love it, it tears my skin up (and who knows what internally). Thank you!! Guest guest
Hard to say. If you have the company name you could call and ask them which type it is. I don't think you can tell just by the color. Samala, -------Original Message------- I went to the store and bought some bentonite clay, now it did not say calsium bentonite it just said bentonite clay its mined in wyoming and its white are they the same.
