Guest guest
Hi, I'm Neil, and new to this stuff. I grew up on cottage cheese and buttermilk, but never really knew how they were made. I started making milk kefir a few weeks ago, and now want to try some more fermented stuff. On one of the other kefir groups a link was posted to Heidi's kefirbeer recipe. I've got to try that porter. Has anyone used this recipe? How did it go? It's got to be the easiest homebrew recipe I've ever seen. I've looked up hops for sale online, and they're priced per ounce - the recipe calls for 4 or 5 'handfuls' of hops - how many ounces would that be? Thanks for the help and the welcome! Guest guest
As to weighing ounces of hops, one solution is the next times you are in a grocery story, pick up a handful for something light but bulky, like maybe dried peppers, and weigh that. It will probably average around two ounces, if your hand is not too large and you do not press them too tightly. So you could figure the amount from there when you buy hops per ounce. Then record the handful amounts you used to get the best brew for you! It's all subjective and experimental, within certain parameters. This makes for the aggravation and the most fun.
