Availability of Red Yeast for culturing

Hi all.

I just spent a couple weeks trying to find Red Yeast starter available

for culturing and came up with DMSZ only. Lots of pills and capsules

out there but the FDA won't allow live red yeast supplements due to

their interaction with some pharmaceuticals.

A chinese national brought over his generations old red rice culture

from china and gave it to my friend. I saw a post by him and promptly

began bugging the start from him.

Right now I'm in the process of checking viability of the culture.

Apparently it was about 5 years old waiting for me in someone's dusty

storage area.

Once I see that it's viable I will make it available to anyone who

wants it. I would like to see this culture more readily available so

people don't have to spend $20 a bottle on red yeast rice that has

been sabotaged to contain less of the active ingredient.
