Hi, you could ask your question on the ginger beer plant group, or look

at messages in their archives. A number of the members are growing and

distributing tibicos. Personally I haven't been able to get it to grow

but others have. Bacically it seems you treat it the same as water

kefir.

Bruce, it it that tibicos is a different culture than real water kefir grains

(versus converted milk kefir grains)? Something I have read in the past made me

think that it was a synonym. By the way, I have often wondered how water kefir

grains also became known as Japanese water crystals.

By the way, I had bottled some water kefir made with raisins. I would have

taken my eye out had it not been for the ez cap! What a mess....but tasty. :o)

Hi Connie, I saw a site that said these were all the names for the

same thing...

Japanese Water Crystals / Water Kefir Grains / California Bees /

Sugary Kefir / Water Kefir Crystals / Tibi / Tibicos / Wasserkefir /

Piltz / Kefir di frutta / Sea Rice / Indian Sea Rice / Indian Yogi

Mushroom /

Opinion on that remains somewhat split.

People who have had both cultures at the same time have said that

Tibicos are definitely not the same culture as water kefir.

I don't have enough experience of my own to form a strong opinion one

way or the other. Some of the members of the ginger beer plant group

believe Tibicos is the fabled ginger beer plant which we seek.

One thing you can do with closed carbonated ferments is to cool them in

the fridge overnight before opening them to reduce the explosive nature

of their fizziness.

--->LOL, that is exactly what I did with the others. It was less dangerous this

morning; I popped the top with the bottle inside of a pillow case. There was a

lot of foam....but not all over my kitchen this time.

Thanks! Carol S.

Thanks, Bruce!

I've posted it to the ginger beer plant group

and I got some informative answers.
