Guest guest
My girlfriend was diagnosed earlier this summer at the age of 24. She had night sweats and a pain getting worse in her lower back. After a scan they found out she had what looked to be kidney cancer that had spread to her liver, lungs and was on her spine and behind her sternum. It turned out to be a form of Ewing's Sarcoma, which usually hits children but also can strike in your twenties. Are you out of the hospital? Did they do a biopsy? Have they talked about protocols? Do they have a hunch of what it may be? My girlfriend'doctors have changed their mind about the what kind of cancer it was and what the protocol would be probably 6 times. That never gave me much confidence. Marty --- Ron Vojtko <steeluz@...> wrote: > I am a 31 year old in what I thought was in good > health. Guest guest
Steeluz, Marty's message is exactly correct. You need a good diagnosis before starting any treatment that could affect future treatment decisions. Could you give details, details, details? I have been a member of this group since January, but have never engaged in the chat or bothered to learn how to research the archive. I see one of Robin's messages here today and it probably has all you need for more activity. Personally I find that a message goes out from someone asking for information and several members will answer. There is so much to learn and I find every one to be very supportive, I believe this is a wonderful web site for those who have Lyme disease or have a loved one who suffers from the disease. Usually there is someone who can provide good advice from life experience. Today is a slow day I think because it is Saturday day time. I had Lyme since 1994, learned what I had in Sept. Last year and finally learned a great deal about Lyme in January 2002 and thereafter. God bless you and if you have Lyme I pray for your speedy recovery. Guest guest
Saranya, I don't have a problem with the gradual increase of the dose, but taking it of a morning goes against anything that I know about it. It won't, apparently, do anything if taken any time other than 9:00 PM - 3:00 AM. If it were me, I'd thank the neuro for the script and then do as so many with personal experiences are doing. What she doesn't know won't hurt her, and obviously she doesn't know how LDN works. Best of luck with LDN! Marcie
Guest guest
LDN MUST be taken AFTER 9PM and BEFORE 3AM daily. ----- Original Message ----- From: saranyasaranye low dose naltrexone Sent: Friday, October 01, 2004 21:03 Subject: [low dose naltrexone] New user Yesterday my neurologist gave me a Rx for ldn no problem even though she doesn't believe it will do any good. The Rx is for 1mg for 2 weeks and 2mg for another 2 and finally up to only 3 to be taken mornings. This doesn't correspond to anything I have read. Any suggestions? About 3 years ago I entered secondary progressive phase after about 30 of rr. The pain in my legs is unbearable and she just told me it isn't muscle spasms but due to weakness. This after a year of baclofen which wasn't helping and I am already weaning myself off of it. I have refused steroids and abc drugs and neurontin doesn't help and am off of it. I hope ldn helps because the new pain Rx she also gave me has a list of possible side effects that is beyond the beyond. Nortriptyline. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Saranya, It should not be taken in the morning, it is to be taken after 9:30PM . The Baclofen for a year has weakened your muscles. If I were you I would take the LDN at 3mg, start some sort of leg exercise and stretching. Do them everyday, force yourself. Be patient, you can rebuild your leg muscles but it will take time and discipline. Your doc seems to be ill informed. Guest guest
Saranya Nortriptyline is used for the relief of symptoms of depression according to a drug monograph I just read and is not going to be good for anyone actually.Even if you were suicidal chances are it will cause a stroke or heart failure before it did anything good for you. If this is what your Dr. put you on then he didn't listen to well to you, did he? Guest guest
Reg Apparently in small doses it is used for chronic pain and the Dr. said it wouldn't help with my depressive feelings but on my side I would have to be pretty desperate to take it. The problem is I refuse all her suggestions and she wonders what she is supposed to do for me. She did give me the Rx for LDN however without really thinking it would help so I don't want to alienate myself from her. Guest guest
Did you forget to tell about the constant pain even while sitting or arn't you there yet? I still wouldn't take the nortriptyline as there were too many dire consequences from taking it. And you are hearing this from a guy that smokes/uses pot for pain. I am not a conundrum I just figure there is way less bad side effects from pot than from heavy drugs. Actually none that I know of.Of course being thrown in jail isn't really a side effect, it's a direct result of. This last visit the dr. said to get steroids and I refused and also wanted me to go on the abc drugs and I conveniently lost the info she gave me. I want to try the ldn but the pain is so intense esp when walking and standing that she prescribed the nortriptyline but told me that if I retained urine for 12 hours I should go to the emergency room and get catheterized. Guest guest
Saranya, Most Doctor's in the USA know little about alternative medicine. There is a better way. Once you are able to feel the effects of LDN, the ABCR drugs are not even in the picture. Hopefully you'll be able to have one of your doctors write you a script. Soon, you'll see your neurologist very infrequently, if he continues to be a non believer of LDN. Good luck! -----Original Message----- From: saranyasaranye [mailto:saranyasaranye@...] Sent: Saturday, October 02, 2004 4:10 PM low dose naltrexone Subject: [low dose naltrexone] new user Thank you to everyone for your help. Guest guest
That is Great you got the Bristol Myers Revia b/c I'm finding that is the best one for me and wonder about the others. Yes, the liquid way is best also and works great for me. I tried the crushed way for 5 months and got some symptom relief from my one brain lesion but had Extreme fatigue and started the liquid method in June and had over night success with Energy!!! Felt better all over and cognitive dysfunction went away and my memory is great. If only I had started day one with the liquid method!!:-) I hope my experience changing to the liquid methodd helps everyone that hasn't got great results yet and also finding the Bristol Myers works the best for me so may be the case for those not getting good results yet. Dave ========= Dave, I hope you are refrigerating it and shaking well before each use. What dosage is she taking? Liquid LDN (Easiest): Acquire some ml measuring equipment from the baby section of a Drug Store and a small bottle with a screw-on cap. Put 50ml of water (distilled is best) and one 50mg " ReVia " Naltrexone tablet in the small bottle and let it dissolve with a little time and shaking. Now each ml of water in that small bottle contains 1 mg of Naltrexone. At bedtime shake the bottle, take a desired dose (no more than 4.5ml), chase it down with some water and store the small bottle in the refrigerator. Some people have reported splitting the tablet in half and dissolving it in 25ml of water to assure freshness every week.

Guest guest
I will be taking round 3 on Tuesday and after my first injection I developed a headache and felt as if I could smell every bit of mold and dust out there. I was so exhausted and after round 2, no headache but I was really exhausted. However, it rained off and on today for the past day here in Dallas and usually I would be whining about mold. For once I have a few hours relief from chest tightness and was able to read aloud an entire Christmas letter on the phone. Before xolair, I have been unable to say more than 2 or 3 sentences at a time for the past year and a half. Is it the clean air for once here in Dallas or the xolair or both? All I know is, I could talk. I discussed this issue with my allergist's nurse (she used t to work for a doctor who had many xolair patients) and she said it has to do with dieoff from the allergic reactions being " broken up. " I honestly think that the more allergic you are, you will be more tired and symptomatic at first because xolair is working on old reactions. Remember, a bad asthma attack can inflame the tissues for weeks. I am highly allergic and my rast titer to cat is 16500 which is class 4 and class 2 to almost every pollen and dust and dog. I hope this helps but remember I am just a patient and not a professional I can only tell you my experiences with it. I am trying to maintain a positive attitude, rest, keep my enviornment really clean, eat well and take my vitamins.
