Guest guest
About 90% of us still have to take some kind of daily med in addition to the Xolair. Xolair is preventative and takes, on average, 3-6 months to take effect. Several of us hardly have to take any other meds, unless we have an acute attack, but most of us are still taking an inhaled corticosteroid at the least. You might try a different inhaled steroid than the one in advair if advair is not helping lyou. The inhaled steroid in advair is better at reaching larger airways (so my doctor said). I have added asmanex, an inhaled steroid that is supposed to be better at getting to the smaller airways. Good luck, Addy Group owner Do not make any changes in y our treatment plan without your doc's okay. --- In , " adavidson21 " <adavidson21@...> wrote: > > hi > i have asthma, and am now immune to advair > last year my doc told me that i was an excellent candidate for xolair > but it was not yet covered by quebec medicare > do u know if it is covered by medicare > i have having asthma i can not step into any house with a cat or a dog > and am allergic to nuts > and have trouble with mold and sometimes just randomly cant breathe > with xolair do i still need to take advair? > and how many times if u r on xolair do u find u need to take ventolin? > thx > Ariel >
Guest guest
Hi, I have been taking xolair for sometime now and find i don,t need to use my ventolin very often. Maybe as little as once a week. I am from england so i don't know what advair is . But i do know that i have been able to get off the steroids and phyllocontin. I do still use my steroid inhaler though. >From: " adavidson21 " <adavidson21@...> >Reply- > >Subject: [ ] might try out xolair some questions though >Date: Tue, 17 Oct 2006 02:45:31 -0000 > >hi >i have asthma, and am now immune to advair >last year my doc told me that i was an excellent candidate for xolair >but it was not yet covered by quebec medicare >do u know if it is covered by medicare >i have having asthma i can not step into any house with a cat or a dog >and am allergic to nuts >and have trouble with mold and sometimes just randomly cant breathe >with xolair do i still need to take advair? >and how many times if u r on xolair do u find u need to take ventolin? >thx >Ariel > > > > _________________________________________________________________ The new Windows Live Toolbar helps you guard against viruses http://toolbar.live.com/?mkt=en-gb
Guest guest
Ariel! A fellow Quebecer! (How do you spell that??) I am one of the moderators on this board and I am from Quebec too! How exciting! I was the second patient in Quebec and no. 12 in Canada to get this med. Here is some info: 1) If you are immune to Advair, try switching to Symbicort if you have not already 2) Quebec medicare will cover Xolair if your doctor applies for you as a " patient d'exception " . At my hospital, there are a bunch of patients who got it that way. It means you are so sick that this is the one thing that will help you. RAMQ (Quebec medicare) will cover it 100% in that case. It is pretty simple to apply. 3) I am still on prednisone but I take way less than before. Some people here barely use any ventolin at all! You can email me at my address if you want more info. ps Welcome! You are Canadian no. 3 on this board I think!!!
