Hi everyone,

I have been using wkg's to brew a probiotic drink--at least I hope it's

probiotic. I've been adding raisins, dates, lemon, ginger and most

recently rapadura sugar to water and fermenting about 48 hours, pouring

most of the liquid into another jar (reserving about 1 cup as starter)

and refilling my original brewing jar with same ingredients named above,

not rinsing the grains off at all. I am beginning to get a slimey sort

of yeast on the bottom, but otherwise I don't notice anything off. Two

questions:

should I be rinsing the wkg's? and

should I be swirling the jar as we do with milk kefir grains?

Many thanks,

Dahlia

Vona, WKGs = Water Kefir Grains = Sugary Kefir Grains = SKG [the same grains

but with many names].

The specific variety of kefir grains are used to prepare a traditional water

kefir, from sugar/water, lemon and a dry fruit of personal choice.

Be-well,
