Hi:

I've been doing so well since I've been on Xolair that I cut the

Advair and Maxair to once a day in the morning and I really don't feel

that I need it then. Actually, I feel better getting less Advair

because I don't have to contend with that hoarse voice.

Today my doctor told me that I really need to keep taking Advair

because my lungs were " so bad " a year ago when he first prescribed it.

I don't believe in taking medicine that I don't need, and I

secretly cut back to once a day about 3 months ago without any effect

except that I feel better.

Does anyone think I'm making a mistake?

I think the purpose of going on this expensive medicine is to

help me get off some of the other stuff.

Carol,

My advice is to follow your doctors instructions. He/she did a lot of

schooling to lean how to help you manage your asthma. I, like you,

wanted to get off my advair contrary to my doc's orders, so I stopped it.

After one week, I was having to neb about every 2 hours and almost had

to take the evil candy again. My doctor was right. Now with the

Advair 2 times a day and the xolair, I am nebbing once a day (if i can

remember to)

Before you get off any of your meds, do have a good talk with your

doctor. In my case I DID need it.

Carol,

I have a similar story - I'm taking Advair 500/50 and Alupent (it's the only

fast acting inhaler that works for me). I wanted to reduce Advair but my doc

said to reduce Alupent, which I did. Sometimes I can get away with using it 1x

per week. Other times more. It's pretty much as needed. I wanted to go down

to 250/50 on Advair but my doc said to wait. I've been taking 500/50 pretty

much 1x per day. I didn't really plan it that way, I just feel so much better

that I forget to take it. I have noticed that I tend to feel a little worse

when I forget so the doc probably knows better than me. Just my 2 cents.
