Guest guest
Hi, folks, About 2/3 of the people who responded to the poll said they either aren't losing any hair since starting Xolair or they are losing no more than they lost before. I spent a few minutes researching potential causes of hair loss on the net. There are many, and most of the sources recommended that people experiencing hair loss see a dermatologist. Possible causes include thyroid problems, which a couple of you said you are having checked out, and a lack of certain nutrients which may certainly be an issue with those of us still taking lots of meds. Apparently hair loss can also be a sign of diabetes, which we are all learning can be a a result of long term pred use. Which leads me to the following conclusion: we're all gonna die somehow, but hopefully it won't be from an asthma attack! Well, I've got to go take some NSAIDS for my early onset arthritis, calcium and D for my early onset osteoporosis, and so on. Take care, all of you. Guest guest
I " ve read that book - it's very good. There are actually two authors, a patient who had to take pred for a year or so and her doctor sister. It has really good recommendations on how to handle the cravings and try to fight the pred weight gain. Good luck with your wife, Ron! > > > Hi, folks, > > > > About 2/3 of the people who responded to the poll said they either > > aren't losing any hair since starting Xolair or they are losing no > > more than they lost before. Guest guest
Dear everyone, Thanks so much for researching this you guys. I appreciate it and I am glad that I don't have to stop using xolair just yet. I am the one who posted recently asking the question about xolair. I will let you know what I find from my blood tests. I saw a dermatologist last week, ordered blood tests including thyroid (apparently TSH is the critical one to test), iron etc. According to the hair sample he took (where he tore some of my hair using a clamp), I am not losing hair. But he also asked me to do a hair count to make sure I know how much hair I am losing a day, ie if I am losing more than I should each day. Apparently you normally lose 100-125 hairs a day in the fall and winter and 80-100 in the spring and summer. If the other people who also posted that they have lost their hair do this test, you will know if your hair loss is excessive. You should wash your hair one day, brush, brush brush, but don't count. That way you start fresh the next day. Next day, begin counting - count everything: use a new hairbrush, wash your hair again but block drain so you can collect hair - basically count all hair on drain, pillow, hairbrush, anything that spontaneously comes off etc. give the total hair counted to the doctor with the total.....and you will know. Addy, I know you had contacted the pharm company that makes Xolair on the hair loss issue, please do let me know if they say anything on this issue. thanks again, best, Elle pyle456 <coachmac@...> wrote: Hi, folks, About 2/3 of the people who responded to the poll said they either aren't losing any hair since starting Xolair or they are losing no more than they lost before.
