Guest guest
, I'm fused T1 to the sacrum, have had three revisions, and have worn a TLSO after all three, for a total of 1 year with all the surgeries, 3 months twice, and six with the other. I wore a males T-shirt under mine, mine came up into my armpit quite a ways, so the T-shirts worked good. Could try the tank top style, some gals prefered them. Know the TLSO is hot, my brace maker drilled extra holes in mine to help with the heat, think it helped. I have no vanity, comfort was my motto, so I wore the brace sometimes without wearing a shirt over it, because of the heat. For me, revision started me into Peri-menopause, and I'd hot flash all the time, and wearing that brace it was pretty danged HOT. Getting the shirt up and over my head took a little practice, but I figured it out, and could do it myself after the first week or so home. I think having buttons is a cool idea, but since the brace is more like a soft plastic cast, very form fitting, the buttons might press into your skin and be uncomfortable. I'd maybe buy one and try it, but in my book T-shirts work great and are cheap. I have a really long fusion mass, and some things are a little tough, not only because of how long it is, but the configuration of my hardware. Cars are probably my toughest challenge. Cars low to the ground, or have small door openings are tough. My daughter has a Honda Accord, probably the toughest for me to get into and out of. I'd say coming home from the hospital, something with a big door opening, and high off the ground is the most comfortable, like say a Mini van or a SUV. With fusions so high and low, you basically have a frozen torso, so you are only able to dip your head, something it takes time to get used to. Sucks, but if revision is very successful, and your pain is reduced or gone, you are upright, level and able to walk and stand, the other is completely doable, you just get used to doing things another way, or asking for help when you need it. I wouldn't go back, I'm so much better now! Maybe if you phrase questions more detailed we'd get what you need to know. Ask away! I am guessing since I am being fused from T3 down that I will not be able to easily slip a regular T shirt on and off. The idea I've come up with is button down PJ tops.... What do other people think? Any ideas would be great. Any other suggestions for what I will be experiencing since I will be fused so high up and how I can be most comfortable would be greatly appreciated.Such as.... will I be able to raise my arms over my head easily? etc. I can't believe my surgeries are just two weeks away today. uggghhhh.Thank you! Guest guest
You will want to get T-Shirts to wear under the brace. It would be most comfortable if the t-shirt does not crease. Another option is the "Boston-T", made by Boston Brace (a TLSO Brace is often referred to as a "Boston Brace"). http://www.bostonbrace.com/Content/Accessories.asp S. Guest guest
Hi ... I know some people wear their braces on the outside of their clothing, but I don't think I'd like the extra attention that might bring. I wore a 100% cotton " wife beater " type camisole under my brace. Whatever you decide, I think it's relatively important to wear something underneath that won't make uncomfortable wrinkles. Guest guest
Hi , Sorry that I was unable to call and chat again last week. I'm hoping to give you a call one night this week. I wore " wife-beater " T-shirts under my brace. Suggested to me by other's and they really were the best. Personally, I think that button down pj's will be problematic. The brace is TIGHT and I think that the buttons will dig into you and you will really need 100% breathable cotton or silk. I know you are being fused up to T3, I am T4 or T5 (I don't remember now! See how time passes!) and I was able to put my arms up to put the undershirt on and off. Hope this helps. D (RI) > > Dr. Glazer said I will be using a TLSO brace for 4-6 weeks post surgeries. Guest guest
, My sister wore the Milwaukee brace for a couple of years before she had the surgery. It was around 1970. She was a tiny little thing and my dad wore undershirts--then they didn't have all the underthings for girls like they do now and my mom simply hemmed a couple of my dad's shirts. I also remember my mom learned to pull out the undershirt/liner under the cast and replace it with a clean one. It was pretty nasty in the summer in Texas. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Hi ,I had to wear a brace after Glazer did my revision in 2001 - I bought several of the tank tops with a shelf bra built in (Old Navy had some pretty cheap ones, as I recall) and wore them under my brace. It was a little hard to adjust the shelf bra part, but my chest was big enough that I didn't feel comfortable without a little support. Good luck,Carolyn
