Thank you for all of your replies! I have to go to a regular pediatrician

because I have to be sexually active or over 16 to see an adult OBGN. Trust me

we were both shocked that they had asked that question for a 12 year old. I will

let you guys know what the pediatrician says to do. We might just have to grit

our teeth and head to Emory.

Thanks for all of your research and advice! Shea Reasoner

Shea, I am glad you are able to get started on the new medicine and I hope

it offers great benefits.

I wanted to write to you reference the ovarian cyst. Having had them my

entire life that I can remember and my sister also, the doc is Right, it is

most likely nothing. AND, if you have not started menses yet, it could be

that first follicle ready to rupture that is going to get you started. I

have had big ones and small ones, one’s that hurt soo bad I went to the ER

thinking my appendix was ready to rupture, mostly though, I feel a twinge

just inside my hipbones when I roll over or turn too quick. They can be

truly benign but for your age it should be checked out. Better safe!!

If you want to talk more about this or want to know about the appt you will

have with the OB/GYN and how they will ultrasound them, you are welcome to

email me privately. Because of my history, my daughter is at a high risk of

having them also, and when we get closer to your age, she will know the

symptoms to look for. I can respond with more info here if you think it

would be beneficial to all but I am willing to talk with you more off line

also.

Hugs to you.

Today the phone rang, this used to be a normal sound, but when you are

waiting

for results for a test and you see EMORY HEALTHCARE on the caller i.d you

hit

the green button like your on Deal or No Deal. Dr. Han quickly explained

that

she saw signs of arthritis and fluid in both of my knees. The hip MRI is

another

story, she didn't see fluid or signs of arthritis. But she found something

else,

she saw a cyst on one of my ovaries. This means I have to get a sonigram at

an

OBGYN.

I'm 12 years old and I need to see a OBGYN?!?!?! What? She said it could be

the new medicine. Has anything like this has happened to any of your kids?

Please, let me know

Shea,

I had no idea you were 12. You write like a much older person. You definitely

have a talent for writing. Maybe you should blog your whole arthritis

experience - kinda to help other kids. Just thinking.

Anyway, I am glad they found out a problem, now you can get help with your

knees. What medicines are they putting you on?

The cyst. I have had them. But I know nothing about them at your age. You

know pediatric medicine isn't just shrunk down adult medicine. You guys are

different and growing and developing people. So have it checked out just to be

on the safe side.

Good luck with your new meds. Keep us updated!

I knew you were a great person. Thinking of others when you are having your own

difficulties. What a strong person!

My kids both took Enbrel. It isn't bad. They used EMLA cream to numb the site.

When you start on it, you will feel so much better, that you actually look

forward to it. It will also prevent the crippling affect of the arthritis on

your joints.

Keep us updated!

Shea,

I’m not Audra but my daughter also used Enbrel. When she was on it they

didn’t yet have the premixed available (for kids at least) so we had to mix

it. It sounds complicated when you first get the info but it’s really quite

easy.

Get the one you have to mix. It isn't as painful. The pre mixed one is

a lower ph and hurts. You might have to take two shots with the one

you mix. n did, but she was on it four years ago. (n,

21, systemic)

I will also chime in here... Cameron (age 9) took the pre-mixed and it really

burned. We do the one we mix now and he's fine with it. He gets 2 shots per

week, 15 mg (0.6ml) on Tuesday and another on Friday.

Has any one had the shot finnergan and demoral? I had that shot and it burned so

bad. Is that comparable to the way Enbrel stings? Thank you so much for all of

Hi Shea,

My daughter is finally home from a friend's house, so I can ask her about the

shots. She said the Enbrel(premixed) burns worse. I really hate to tell you

that, but I have to be honest.

However, with the EMLA and other tricks, you'll learn how to make them more

tolerable. She would use the premixed in a syringe and give it herself slowly.

That way she could control the rate and it didn't hurt as bad.

But the shot really works on the arthritis. My daughter is in remission now.

There is hope!

  • 2 months later...

Here are the results finally from the doctor...

Dr. Hey agrees with my initial reading and the radiology report that there does not appear to be any fracture of the hardware or the fusion mass. He would like for you to continue the conservative measures to try and control your low back pain. Hopefully, Dr. Coles was also able to help you knee issues as well.

I have written back to Brittany to ask what conservative measures on because the ones I have been doing have kept me out of work. I also told her that I feel it is a muscular issue related to the hardware and to please advise me on who can evalute the muscular issues.
