Guest guest
I remember the first time I first heard about Xolair. It was 2003. My allergist had given me everything in her arsenal to keep me breathing. I was on 40-50 mg of evil candy a day and it was affecting my total health and I became type II diabetic. I had gained over 40 pounds, was a hyper, nervous wreck from that evil stuff, but I had no choice but to take it. It was my ONLY way to get any relief. She was out of the office one day when I had a severe bout of asthma so I saw one of the other doctors. He said: " Mr. Beasley, you are a perfect candidate for Xolair. " I said " uhh what air? " The xolair rep had been to the office earlier in the day and this doctor was fully educated in this new weapon against chronic, severe asthma. He took my blood for an IGE level and called me 2 days later to tell me that I was just right for the new drug. It had just been released for use by the FDA. To be perfectly honest, I was quite afraid of a brand new medicine. I knew that I had to have some relief so I agreed to take it. To my surprise, my insurance happily agreed to pay all but a small try monthly co pay of 75.00. So, I was the first one in the State of Arkansas to get Xolair. I then moved to another town here in Arkansas found an allergist here who also gave xolair. As I have posted before, it took over a year to see any relief. I told my doctor I wanted to quit after a few months but he advised me to stay the course. I now am glad I did. I don't blame those who might be hesitant to take this new drug. I was there myself at one time and I understand your fears. My advice once again is to trust your doctor. Only he/she has the knowledge to know if this drug is right for you. Give it time to work. I hope this post has helped someone. Doug Group founder Co/owner/moderator
