I've been lurking around the scoli sites for a long time, knowing that

eventually my flatback would catch up with me and I'd have to actually go see a

doc again. Had 2 surgies in the 70s, am now 50, and am totally dreading opening

this can of worms again. I feel like it's been a black cloud hanging over me

all my life and I've just been waiting for it to start raining. Well, it's now

raining and I need to address the situation with more than painkillers. Finding

a reputable doc who knows what they're dealing with is daunting task. Can

anyone recommend a doc close to the Reading, PA area?

I know this second round with scoli is hard to wrap ones head around and move forward, but since you are ready to move forward here's an idea for you.

 

Member doc's of the Soliosis Research Society is a good starting place. Just google the group, there they have a great doc locator by state, and even city. You will probably have to travel, at the very least within your state, or a neighboring state. When  looking at your states doc's listed there, look for, Adult scoliosis, Aging Spine, and Degenerative conditions, in their description. I'd also look in neighboring states since you have so many around you, with minimal travel.

 

Ask pointed questions when calling offices, ask about there experience with Post Harrington Rod spines and Flatback, if they hum or haw around, move on.

 

As to doc's routinely talked about here,in your region are in New York, and Boston. Boachie, Errico, Bendo in New York. Dr's Rand and Glazer in Boston. We do have a lot of patients from all over the country travel to St. Louis to see either Dr. Bridwell or Lenke. There are doc's spoken about here further afield. Members sometimes have family in certain places, where they have support, away from home, and that helps with the decision. Many want to stay as close to home as possible, but most have to travel some distance.

 

We also suggest if possible for you to see at least two doc's for opinions.

 

Also now is a good time to round up as much info on your case as you can. Put together if possible, hospital reports, X-rays, MRI's, test reports, office notes, all this will be helpful.

 

Finding ones doc is a big part of treatment, I wish you luck, and do let us know when you have appointments, we will put them on the groups calendar, and do let us know how the search goes.

Hi Cat,

Since responded to the direction of finding a surgeon, I thought I would

respond to the OMG I have to travel that road again syndrome. It is so

overwhelming isn't it? Everyone of us who have realized our quality of life is

suffering beyond what is livable has faced that demon once again. I am sorry. My

heart goes out to you but I also want to throw you some kudo's for standing up

and making a move. It is a decisive step in the right direction to find out what

your options are. You should really be proud of yourself, it is not an easy

thing. C
