Guest guest
I have had a lumbar lamenectomy to repair a tethered spinal cord and a cervical fusion...neither caused vertigo. Medications such as Lyrica and Neurotin both caused extreme vertigo for me. tinypoms <tinypoms@...> wrote: I had an acdf on May 8th. At 9:30, I woke up to vertigo. I went to the doctor the next day because it didn't stop and he said I have an inner ear infection and it could not be the Medrol. He didn't even examine me. I was just wondering if anyone has had vertigo from the spinal surgery. I was thinking that it could be from that. Joanie

Guest guest
, I had L4/L5/S1 fused, bone grafts & hardware. I have nerve damage in nerves leading to both feet. About 2/3rds of my right foot is numb & about 1/3rd of my left foot is numb. I also get electric type shocks from feet up to about knee area many times a day. Very upsetting and interferes with my sleep greatly. Bill, I hope it goes away!! I had an acdf on May 8th. Guest guest
Bill I feel for you, I get electric shocks myself in my right foot every once in awhile- mainly after my massage therapist has tried to open the muscle that is clamped down in the foot and calf from the active nerve. Its been going on off and on for a year, but in the past 6 months very active and ever since the prolotherapy I tried in April its been a lot worse. Thank you for sharing. Guest guest
Gosh if your Surgeon doenst like to take care of pain, than make sure you have a pain clinic lined up and tell this surgeon you need a referral in hand before the surgery! I cant believe he would even say that. Take care of yourself and make sure you get someone lined up to help you for after the surgery! Youll be in my prayers. best wishes, wendy Re: Vertigo From Cervical Spine Surgery? in answer to the numb big toe i have that too and the top of my foot and the toe next to the big toe. i have herniated L5 , 4, 3, and L 2 and I'm scared chitless!!! Guest guest
WOW! My surgeon believed in LOTS of pain meds following surgery! I had the button to push when I needed the meds and believe me, I pushed it when I needed it!!! Most of the research that I have done on recovering after surgery indicates that it's better to use the pain meds. The research shows that MOST people recover faster with liberal use of pain meds immediately following surgery! I would talk to your doctor! The intensity and scope of your surgery indicates that you should have all the pain meds you want and need at least in the beginning! Guest guest
I'm a newbie and so glad I found you. YES, you can get vertigo from cervical spine surgery. It's either a reaction to pain meds, or you've had a stroke in the area of your brain that affects balance. I had a stroke from an anterior C6, C7 hemicorpectomy. No one knows for sure, but when the vertebral artery was slightly manipulated, something moved and there was no blood supply to the PICA artery in the basal area of my head. After 24 hours, they ruled out the meds and did some brain scans for evidence of a stroke and hydrocephalia. If you have continued vertigo, I would suggest seeing a neurologist. I now have back about 90% of what I lost, but I know how scarey it can be. If you've recently had surgery, do not let that doctor blow you off with an inner-ear explanation. Guest guest
Let me caution you that MANY things can cause vertigo, and the most common causes are quite minor...and NOT as scary as a stroke. Reaction to pain meds or a stroke are only two of many many causes of vertigo. If you are experiencing vertigo you should see your general practitioner...not the pain management doc. --- Babbitt ________________________________ From: Kathy <kathy.thun@...> spinal problems Sent: Saturday, September 19, 2009 3:21:28 PM Subject: Re: Vertigo From Cervical Spine Surgery?
