Hi Robin:

Just wanted to tell you I checked out a pilates reformer at a pilates studio

today. By checked out I mean looked at, not worked out on. It looks a bit

like a medieval torture device. HAHA! The instructor seemed a bit surprised

when I said " hey, is that a reformer? " . I had already told her I had never

done pilates so she probably wondered how I knew what the heck it was. After

hearing about your new purchase I just assumed that was what it was.

I go right by the studio each week when I take the kids to playgroup.

Stopped in there to check the place out today. A intermediate mat class was

just starting. I am considering joining a beginner mat class. Studio was

very nice, well done up and a nice calming atmosphere. Instructor looked in

great shape and took her training with STOTT in Toronto, ON. Most pilates

classes around here are quite expensive, this one is in a small town so

actually a bit less but still pricey. Guess I will think on it for a couple

days.

Hi ,

Pilates can be a bit pricey. Yes, a medieval torture device sounds

about right for the reformer!! If your instructor is Stott certified

you can bet she has a good backgroud. You might be able to find less

expensive mat classes at another gym unless you are really looking

into reformer training. I train on the reformer at two gyms.....one

is pricey and the other is not. If you have a Lifetime Fitness by

you, the reformer classes are pretty inexpensive once you are a

member and they usually have pilate mat classes as well.

  • 4 years later...

Hi everyone,

I am 10 months out from revision surgery with Dr. Rand and over the weekend I

was able to take a class on the pilates reformer (machine). It felt fine and my

back felt very secure on the bed of the machine. I am just curious if anyone

has exercised using the reformer and if so how they felt before and/or after.

Prior to my last surgery, I had done mat pilates for several years but I am

afraid to begin again using the mat because it is so difficult for me to get up

from the floor. My knees are in bad shape and I can't put weight on them

without much cushioning under them. Maybe I am just too embarrassed to be in

such bad shape. With the reformer, you can exercise the different body parts

without putting stress on any one body part or at least that's how it seems.

Any and all replies will be most welcome.

Thanks,

Avis
