Guest guest
I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!! I have been so sad about not being able to swim.. and like one of you said.. watching people swim at the pool longing I could do that too. I remember swimming when I was a little girl and I used to spend hours at the pool just swimming laps. I have tried swimming, but it just feels weird since you're either flat on your face or straight up in the water. I want to try to this rotating the whole body thing. Now I just have to find a time when no one is at the pool so I don't feel totally silly practicing to do this....hee hee. Ramona > > > > Just wanted to chime in for a second on the swimming issue. Cheryl, you are so correct when you mentioned that swimming - at least the freestyle stroke that most use - requires the torso to turn as one. My 10 year old is taking swimming lessons and one of the exercises his instructor was having him do was to swim on one side with the lower arm extended straight up along side his head with his face and torso angled up, he then had to rotate his entire body over - stomach into the water - and then face up with the opposing arm straight along side his head with his face and torso angled up towards the ceiling of the pool area. He was being taught to move his entire body with the swimming motion. I had never seen that teaching technique before and she explained he had bad habits that would hurt his shoulders in the long run. > > > > Jeanne > > >
