Guest guest
When a revision is done, do they always do a total revision? I mean, if they bypassed 6 feet to start with and you lose too much weight, can't they just reduce the bypass to 3 feet to pricipitate a moderate weight gain, rather than putting you right back (or near) where you started? Or is this a ploy to get you to fork out another $17,000 to then later have a more moderate bypass done? Also, what about the stomach pouch? Couldn't they undue to bypass part and leave the smaller stomach so you still can't eat so much? I have finally stabelized over the past 6 months, and am still in " normal " (although at the low end) range for my height, and my 2- year bloodwork was acceptable, but I have these questions should the need arise. in Atlanta 06/03/04 290/110-115 5'3-1/2 " > > Hello! Guest guest
In my case, I was as Dr. R. says " as close as one can get to the edge without falling off " . I needed the full revision in order to stay alive. I had my mgb in May 2003 and weight 249. I had my full revision in January 2005 and weighed 100 pounds. I was so mal-nourished that I had been in the hospital 5 times in 4 months and had 4 blood transfusions and was rushed to the hospital one night with congestive heart failure. I honestly do not believe Dr. Rutledge did the full revision so he could get another 17grand out of me to do a 3' mgb. Personally I think he would rather I had done well the first time out. Or not come back to get a 3 foot now. I'm not a very good poster child for an mgb. And how many people can you imagine going through what I went through who would want to do it all over again? Guest guest
Hi . I just joined this message board as I am seriously looking into getting banded. I couldn't help but respond to you, because I live in Eugene too! Any guidance and advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated!!! Kristi > > Hi Folks! > I was banded on 02-02-07, and what a journey this has been. Right after the surgery, I lost 17 pounds. I went in for my first fill in late March. I got 1.8cc's. Then life kicked me hard. April and May were the worst months of my entire life. Very long story short, my daughter revealed to me 18 months ago that she was molested as a young child. In Oregon you have to follow the rules set up by the " system " in order to get your child therapy. We went through the system. The defendant refused to accept responsibility and the whole thing went to court all the way through trial. My child, who is now 15, and I both had to testify. It was awful. The jury believed her, found him guilty, and now he's going to be in prison for a very long time. > I went back to Dr. Fitzpatrick in Eugene the end of May for a second fill. I had known I needed one desperately but frankly was unable to focus on that until after trial. I had gained 4 and a half pounds. She asked me what was going on in my life that I should gain. I talked with her and I cried with her, and I told her that I very effectively learned how to " eat around the band " . Ice cream and chocolate go down really well when you need to self-soothe! In the end she so sweetly told me that I really need to pat myself on the back for ONLY gaining 4.5 lbs (bless her heart). She said I could have easily gained 30, and who wouldn't eat to self-medicate during such a stressful time? I totally love her, and for anyone in Oregon, I highly recommend her for getting your fills. She's amazing. Then she gave me a pretty aggressive fill, and explained that I would no longer be able to cheat the band. > I'm happy to report that I quickly lost the 4.5 lbs gained, and I also have lost a total of 31 lbs since surgery. She was absolutely right, this is an excellent fill, and I am NOT able to eat around the band. Sometimes I still want to. Sometimes I forget the rules. Luckily the band remembers them! > > ' > DOB 02/02/07 > 241/210/140 >
Guest guest
Hi all my fellow Scoli Sisters, I apologize that I have not posted sooner but I truly just found the strength today. I arrived here at rehab last Thursday, May 20 and have been develping small strides every day! Today I dressed myself all by myself. I was so proud. Small thing, I know but the sense of independence it gave me was great. I'm walking quite a bit and doing a lot of resting too. Let's see: Let me give a really quick synopsis before if peeter out: I have a little neuropathy in my right foot and at the top of my right thigh (Weird, huh?). It's just a slight tingly feeling that of course we are are all hoping will just fade away in time. As you all know there was an issue with my dural membrane (I'll spare the gross details) requiring 3 surgeries between 3/15 and 5/5, so it's been a heck of a ride. I have the typical TSLO brace that I wear unless I am laying down, showering or going to the bathroom in the the middle of the night. I actualy like it, especially when i get a nurse that puts it on really tight, it makes all the aches in my back go away. For a while anyway. The rehab is fabulous with pain management. I am on 20 mg Oxycontin, 3x daily and several other pills (but not related to pain per se). So some questinos for all of you (I know they have been asked and answere a ZILLION times, but because they didn't pertain t me at the time, I don't recall the answers!!!) 1. Neuropathy - Tell me your stories and how long it lasted or if any of you still have it years later? 2. I do NOT find sitting all that painful at all - did anyone else experience that? It seems recently that many of you complained about the pain of sittinging and I actually kind of like it? 3. I still don't find standing straight all that comfotable. I do it relatively easily with out bending my knees etc, but I don't find if comfy at all? Any one else experience this 4. The swelling in the legs, ankles and feet? How long did that last? --I'm sure I'll think of some more questions but will just ask these for right now. I'm on the other side now! Yippeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
