Dottie, so sorry to hear you're having such a tough time controlling your

pain, and you don't know why you're still having it after enough post-op

time has passed to heal.

I've had many different types of injections in my lower back, some pre- and

others post-op. Some worked. Others did not. I really do think it

depends on your individual anatomy and situation. Because I had only

limited success with epidurals initially, I had to think about and

ultimately have fusion surgery for relief.

Make sure you're having a doctor with a very positive track record do this

injection for you. Ask if you will need any local or short-term general

anesthesia to reduce any pain before you go in for it. Maybe even call him

on the phone to ally fears about pain before next week and your

appointment. Some injections I've had did not require anything and I

actually felt quite fine throughout the injection. The last one, a

selective nerve root injection post-op, did require a twilight sleep-type

of sedation. I was okay, but still felt some pressure. No pain, just a

" presence. " You might even ask for a anti-anxiety med for the night before

and the morning of to keep you feeling a bit calmer for the procedure.

For what it's worth (and I'm no doctor) I don't think this injection will

mess you up more, but it would be nice to know what's wrong with your back

before your doctor does the injection. It sounds a bit as though he's

literally " shooting in the dark. "

Best of luck with this. Please let us know how it goes.

I got my trigger point injection today. He was able to find the spot through palpation and put the injection in. So far, so good! Just a little burning from the injection, and I haven't had a Norco tablet since this morning. He also found a bad trigger point over the piriformis and is going to inject that the 26th with radiographic guidance. It's kind of funny - I don't understand why he needs imaging to see the piriformis but didn't need imaging to find the screw! But that particular spot has aggravated me since the surgery so maybe it will loosen it up a bit and help.

I had my drug test this morning for the post office. I'm just waiting to hear when I go for training.
