Guest guest
Are you meaning a urologist, or are you literally meaning a plumber? If it's a plumber, I can't help you out! If it's a urologist, I might suggest trying to seek out a urogynecologist if there are any in your area. They tend to only be near larger hospitals or teaching hospitals. But they can be very useful for female bladder issues - versus urologists who often are more specialized with male bladders and prostate issues. May regular urologists are good, but I've seen both, and much preferred the urogynecologists. Now I live too far away from a large enough hospital to see one. Good luck if that's the type of plumber you were referring to, and I guess still good luck if you were referring to a real plumber ) > > > I am on several meds anti-depressants, vicodin, nuerontin, flexeril now I am in need of a plumber, I'm so glad my brother-in-law happens to be one. Guest guest
Deronda, Wow, I sure am not getting what you are refering to. Sometimes things get lost in the translation, or people are trying to put thing delicately without coming right out with it, and we get lost. Always know, that no matter whats going on, most or at least one of us have had the same problems, and hopefully can give some insight. Bladder issues do happen, and meds I'm sure can complicate that. If it's the other end, med's can really mess that up too. Sorry, please let us know exactly whats going on, and maybe we can point you in the right direction. Guest guest
I'm sorry I really didn't make myself clear I assumed everyone would know what I meant without coming right out and saying it. The problem is with taking all the meds I am very bloated and constipated so much that I'm lucky if I go once a week, and when I did I needed to call the actual "plumber" to unplug the toliet. Gosh I would hate for this to happen again. I'm sure more of you must have the same problem and I am looking for suggestion that might keep me more regular. I mentioned this to the doctor at the pain clinic the last time I went and he said yes vicodin can cause that problem but didn't offer a solution. Again I'm sorry for not being more direct. Guest guest
Deronda, Okay, that was my first thought. I had a terrible time with constipation following my last revision when I was on Fentanyl patches. I got toxic from not going, to the point I had neusea and vommiting, and ended up in the ER twice getting IV fluids. Not once in a month of talking on the phone to doc's, seeing my PCP or the ER doc did anyone ask if I was GOING. I'm a twice a day gal, and with the med I was lucky if I went a little bit once a week. MY PCP and the ER doc's thought since I was sick to my stomach and vommiting I must be pregnant, had more pregnancy tests in that month than I had in my entire life. Here I am recovering from a bad back surgery and they think I'm having sex, go figure! Here is what saved my literally. Citrucel. My friend called me from Oregon, heard me, and was immediately concerned I sounded so awful. I told her my story, and she askes" Are you having bowel movements"? She called her hubby proto who a doc, and he told me get some Citrucel( store brands work too and are less money) and take them. He said you can take more than the normal dosage and it won't hurt you to get you going, I did, but you should consult your doc. Later that day, I went, and went, and went. I took them everyday while I was on meds, to keep things moving. Such a simple thing, why no one asked me I'll never know, could have saved me two trips to the ER, several doc visits, and I would have been better able to heal, hard to heal when you are so sick you'd wish you'd die from it already, I was that ill. Keeping ones bowels moving is VERY important. I'm sure others will chime in with what worked for them. Might go to the site, in the SEARCH BOX at the top of the MESSAGES part of the site, type in CONSTIPATION, we have had several conversations on this in the past, good ideas there to help. Ah meds! Guest guest
Deronda, I've found the most effective "laxative" for me has been flax seed. You buy it whole in a small bag in the health food store and grind it in a coffee grinder until it is sort of a powder. It takes some getting used to, but a tablespoon on yogurt or cereal in the morning usually does it for me. It is recommended that you also spoon on another tablespoon in the evening. I would, but my colon just couldn't take it. Flax seed oil is a quick way to get it down--1 tablespoon in the evening. I swear by it and it is cheap! This is natural and is much better than taking more medicine. I hope you'll try it! Guest guest
Deronda, It's very important to have a good daily elimination.. You don't want your body immune system to be plagued with toxins and poison. Agree with Trya, Using a natural product is so much better on our system, once we get pass the stage of be blocked.. Flax seed is a natural source.....fruits and veggies, 4-6 ounces of warm prune juice. .You want to keep all the workings of the muscles in that area from getting weak. So my preference is to steer away from daily use of those that cause a violent expelling. Best to you. Alvera....out in No Man's Land..Ok. Guest guest
Deronda, No need to be polite. I think everyone who is on meds or is post-op has to find a way through this problem. All the suggestions you have been given are good. You may have to experiment with many different products and routines until you find a solution that works for your body/schedule. Just to add to the list of potential home " remedies " I learned this one from one of the nurses aides at the hospital: she mixed the recommended dosage of milk of magnesia in a juice glass of prune juice that was warmed up in the microwave. Worked like a charm and I had my morning cocktail every day until my circumstances changed and I no longer needed it. Tasted amazingly good...and she said that they use it at the nursing home she worked at to keep everyone smiling. Good luck with your solutions! Guest guest
One of my favorite spine nurses, who sees postop spine patients every day, says to remember " mush and push. " In other words, you'll need both a stool softener and a laxative. > > > From: Kirkaldie <.Kirkaldie@...> > Subject: Re: [ ] plumber > > Date: Tuesday, February 2, 2010, 2:59 PM > > >  > > > > > Deronda, >  > Wow, I sure am not getting what you are refering to. Guest guest
Cam you're dead-on as usual!Used this on my patients for many years with great results to " unstop the plumbing " worked better than anything I ever gave them and have also used it myself. If it's really bad you can even up the dosage of the MOM a little. As a preventative measure try either Senekot or Colace twice a day every day, both are over the counter....Donna > > Deronda, > > No need to be polite. Guest guest
Hi Group, I so glad I made myself clear on the situation, I now have many great suggestions, I will try the colace to begin with and the flaxseed that Tyra mentioned and see if that works, maybe even try the prune juice, I like the idea of the all natural, I will continue with what works since I've always had problems being regular.
