Is your doctor communicating with one of the docs in the US on this halotraction treatment? Gibson <norbrake@...> wrote:

I would love to see photos of this walker, they don't usually use Halo Traction for correcting Scoliosis here so everything for Ashleigh has to be sent from over there in the US. They are thinking of doing Halo/Pelvic Traction so that she still can walk around. She will be one of the first to be treated for Scoliosis with Halo Traction here in Western Australia, not sure about the rest of Australia. Hi ,

I am so happy that you posted on our group!! Also, I am so happy to hear about the results that you have had with Kylie. That is so awesome!!

When are you due to go back to Shriners?

Tell Kylie that sends her big hugs and kisses, and that since you saw him he is walking like a big boy now. I think of you both often, everytime I look at the Blankey that you made for him. It looks so cute in his room. Can you post pics of Kylie on the group. She really did love her halo everyone, it was the cutest thing.

I hope to see you both again soon! We are due back in the beginning of November.

Love,

Crista

Hi Carol,I had surgery with Dr. Bridwell and I was in halo traction for it.  I had no idea this was going to happen until the day before surgery, after they put in the central line, when Bernie asked me to come back and sign some new consent forms for halo traction.  I flipped out!  Bernie and my husband had to calm me down so I could consent.Apparently Bridwell is using it more and more because he gets better results from it.  Bernie said he used to use it only with a certain group of patients but now he has found that lots of people do better and he can get better correction.  He has you on a contraption with adjustable straps (no table) during surgery.  Anyway, it was not such a big deal after all.  I was asleep for the whole

thing and when I woke up my head was a bit sore but nothing like my back!  And my hair was full of orange betadyne.  Now I have two tiny scars on my forehead and that's it -- otherwise I would have never known that I was in a halo.My surgery was done in one day, not staged.  Are you going to be in halo traction between the two surgeries?Take care,EveFrom: "c-e-cole@..." <c-e-cole@...> Sent: Wednesday, June 3, 2009

No, I will want to hear more from Suzanne...

also, Bernie says I will have a halo......  I'd always thought I'd like to have one of those, but not quite this way.....

anyone with experience with halos and a 2 staged procedure???

Carol,Well, my expereince was that the anterior part of the surgery was much more painful than the posterior. I think that moving the vessels out of the way, often done by the vascular surgeon, is somewhat "dicey" too,so you get to miss that too. I also think that just not moving all your innards and not cutting through your abdominal wall means less to heal overall. I am sure you know this, but if not, Suzannes (SB's)surgery with DrBridwell was posterior only and you can see that her recovery went very well. I hope yours will as well!Take Care, Cam

I must have had something similar to that, tho I didn't have Bridwell (I went to

Chicago). They didn't tell me about it beforehand, but I asked the surgeon or

one of the fellows during one of his bedside visits why the sides of my head

were so sore and he said " Probably it's from the screws! " I have no memory of

having anything around my head, but I did have one little scab (with maybe one

dissolving stitch in them) on each side of my head. It felt bruised, but

nothing more than that. I think that was probably the only thing that my

surgeon didn't tell me about beforehand, otherwise I felt very well-informed

about things!
