Guest guest
Hello, This is . I had posted as a newbie about a month ago (under the jdsbrqa1234 profile--which due to issues, I changed). My story: fusion t10-l5 with Harrington Rod in 1980.... no problems since... I'm 43 now. My hobby has been running; ran a few marathons and have kept in shape. Had aches/pains here and there, but thought it was due to running. Then in the past 6+mo I started to have more serious pain, which eventually led to this group. So... I had my new patient appt. at UCSF this past Wed. It went well and and it was very informative for my particular condition and just many more details about flatback. First I have to say that I'm still amazed as to how bent forward I am and that I never truly noticed... I even found out that I have a leg longer than the other (I had thought all my life that it was the scoli). How my body compensated for all this is amazing to me, and how it managed to fool me.... I have no other way to describe my surprise at all this. I got a lot of information... some that unfortunately I did not write down and will have to ask again.... The surgery, if/when I choose to do, would be the A/P surgery with fusion to sacrum. There is no hurry in my case. My episode of pain that happened back in Jan-March, has gone down. I get nighttime pain on/off, and much less frequent daytime " shooting " pains. So overall pain is ok. However, the Dr. thinks this is something I would probably have to do sooner or later -- whenever I'm ready. That although my body has compensated very well, eventually as I age, my hips, the one disc, etc... will not be able to hold. That is the part that I really need to understand better, given that my body has been so good to me and I feel like I will be " 32 " forever... Anyways, it feels good to know... and I have a lot to think about. I'm happy to share this with you. Thank you.
