<<I just wanted to know if anyone has applied for Social Security

Disabilty.>>

Hi Barbara,

I applied in 1997 and was aproved approx. one year later. I applied myself

and was denied two times. After the second denial, I got a lawyer. You will

need a lawyer that specializes in SSD. You also need to have real good

doctor records, etc. And, if you do apply make a copy of EVERYTHING. You

will need that info for the future. If approved, they'll hit you up every 3+

years for all your doctor info, etc. since they last was in touch. They do

make you see a doc of their choice. I happened to get lucky as the doc they

picked for me, I had seen a couple of years before that for the Reiters.

If I was you, I'd apply, but once you start the process, do not quit. No

matter how many times you get denied don't quit. Once you quit they won't

allow you to continue; at least that is the way it was back in 1997.

Good luck,

Dawn

Dear Dawn,

Wanted to thank you for the advice. Now I have one other question.

When do you think would be considered a good time to apply? I am

just wondering if maybe my friends and family are jumping the gun on

telling me to apply. Even though I am better than I was, I still

have problems with pain, some days are worst than others. Example,

one day I may be walking normal, that afternoon or the next day I may

not due to the pain in my back and hips. I know that there are

others out there worse than me. I just wondering if I should apply

for it. I have been unemployed for six months and counting. The

restrictions that the doc has put me on has may it basically

impossible to find a job plus the fact that I have no job skills on

an established work history to even try to get a sitting job (worked

on my feet all my life). I guess what I am trying to figure out is

my family right about me applying or should I wait to see if I get

worse or how bad does your RS have to be before you apply?

Barbara,

I think you should apply now as it takes months for decisions to come

through. In the meantime all your medical and other information will be

gathered together in one spot in their office.

A warning though. Photocopy or scan your all the documents you send into

your computer. I went the scanning route with all Hazels documents and have

them saved on a Pen Drive which just plugs into the computer. That way I

have it all together and can take my laptop and pen drive into whoever's

office needs the info. Scanned documents are accepted by most agencies as

they are really a facsimile of the document.

I applied for SSD in PA about 7 months after leaving my job. I went

to the office, it was very close to me and applied in person. I was

very detailed about what I had, who diagnosed it, names and phone

numbers of Drs, addresses or Hosiptals as far back as 15 years.

I have PTSD, Reactive Arthritis and Fibromyalgia and just recovered

from an inflamation of the ribs called costochondritis. I was

hospitalized for 3 days to rule out a heart attack. I was approved

within 6 weeks. I am one of the rare ones. Seems, they take about 10

apps and review them locally and upon all my DR reports and

medications etc that were given to them I was approved.

FYI, I have a 4 page document I update whenever something changes,

such as the dose of my meds. All my surgeries, tests and other

important things like allergies and any problems I have with certain

drugs, you can have terrible side effects that are important that the

Drs know so they do not prescribe them even though you are not

allergic. This is very helpful because all my Drs have a copy,

including the eye Dr. Everyone knows what each one is doing. I highly

recommend this to everyone.

In my state, it takes about 4 to 6 months for an answer. I was very

lucky. I have been told each state is different in their time lines.

I think it is time you try if you need it, you can start recieving

benefits 6 months after you leave your job.

Gena, I wish you luck. I had a fantastic lawyer. I did keep her abreast of all Dr. Appt that I had so she was able to obtain reports from the Dr. The judges office did not request updated reports before the hearing, thank goodness we had as that is what won the case for me. Sandie -- Disabilty Hi, I just got my first letter of denial today from Social Security for my disablity case. Now my lawyer has 60 days to apply for the appeal. This is a long, tedious , nerve racking thing to have to go thru , but I hope will be worth in the long run. Gena ------------------------------------

I was turned down for the Soc Sec Disability yesterday. I will appeal. I'm sure

the Revision surgery and brain tumor, or Aphasia will help my case. (?)

Luckilly I still have the disability retirement from my work.

Does the student loan forgiveness is hard to get? I applied for the loan

forgiveness I haven't heard from loan people yet.

(my daughter's student loan)

(communicate since the Aphasia makes it hard)
