Adah - Congrats on your appt to start Xolair. I know you were more

unsure about it when you first joined the group, and now you seem to

share the same excitement most of us have had. I hope that you find

it to be the Godsend that it has been to Doug, Greg, myself, and

many other past and current members of the group.

How wonderful it is live in this day and age of new therapies and

research in asthma!

reasoning is that Xolair is an asthma treatment, but, if you have

allergy induced asthma, it is also critical to address the

underlying allergies. Otherwise, you are setting yourself up for

endless and expensive Xolair treatment. So, she's willing to give

the shots, but only if you are committed to addressing the

underlying problem.

I believe that the Xolair and allergy shots to not cancel one

another out.

Hello,

It is true that each indvidual is different! My 14 year

old son first started Xolair when he was eleven. He

was so allergic to the environment around him that allergy

shots were out of the question. However, after six months

of Xolair he started taking them. The Xolair allowed him

to take the shots. He still takes them biweekly.

Since November 2005, he has reduced Xolair to once a month

rather than twice a month.

When he first started Xolair, there were times right before

the next shot was due that he felt uneasy, but that soon

disappeared along with the prednisone and numerous medications.

The tree and grass pollen has been very high here in Arkansas

and he recently had bronchitis and needed to use his inhaler.

I wish everyone the best and pray that you too can have the

success of Xolair.

During my discussion with my allergist last week, he mentioned that

he *prefers* to put patients on allergy injections after they have

been on Xolair for 3-6 months. He has one patient who has made so

much progress with both Xolair and allergy shots that he has been

able to take her off the Xolair completely, and she is still doing

great! I was so surprised to hear that since I thought Xolair was

typically a lifetime maintenance medication!

I have to admit that I secretly wondered whether the Xolair has just

built up in the patient's system, and that it will continue helping

for awhile after she stopping taking the Xolair. It's always possible

that she'll have to go back on Xolair once it wears off. Either way,

I thought it was a great success story!

I am currently on allergy injections, but had to set my maintenance

dose pretty low because of increasing symptoms after the shot. My

doctor hopes that I will be able to continue increasing the dosages

again once I've been on Xolair for awhile.

Just wanted to share my doctor's preference on this.

Thanks,

, 32, Louisville
