I'm not an allergist or immunologist, but my allergist will ONLY give Xolair to

people who are also on allergy shots. Her reasoning is that Xolair is an asthma

treatment, but, if you have allergy induced asthma, it is also critical to

address the underlying allergies. Otherwise, you are setting yourself up for

endless and expensive Xolair treatment. So, she's willing to give the shots,

but only if you are committed to addressing the underlying problem.

I know that a lot of folks out there have asthma so severe that the notion that

shots will cure their problem is laughable. I don't mean in any way to

discredit your experience. I am only saying that I believe that the Xolair and

allergy shots to not cancel one another out.

But xolair is a Godsend for me because I am 1 of the 1 in a 1000 who cannot take

allergy shots. (Not only did my doctor give me this statistic, I read it in

some of the books I have on asthma. Don't know if the statistic still holds as

the last time I tried shots was about 19 years ago. My doctor has not suggested

I try again.) Each time I tried the shots my asthma got worse. So for me,

this is a great answer to my allergic asthma.

I have an appointment on Thursday to get started on the shots.

I go into shock with allergy shots . So I can only do the xolair.

Addy: Thanks so much for the encouraging words. You and Doug and and

Greg and some of the others have been an encouragement to me. And yes, it is so

great to live in today when there is solid help for asthmatics. My sister

suffered for 45 years with asthma and died in 1985 basically from heart failure

because of the stress put on her heart from the years of asthma and the extreme

meds they were using. She died twenty years too soon. But God gave her a full

life during the time she lived, in spite of her asthma. So, yes, amen, to

living in today's age when there is so much research going on for the treatment

and hopefully the cure for asthma.

So glad to hear your son had an allergist who was willing to keep working with

him to get him relief from his asthma. Glad to hear that the xolair worked for

him.

Thanks!!! His allergist went beyond her call of duty and did

everything possible to help him.
