Guest guest
hi cindy welcome to the group. glad you are keeping up on your workouts. i like all kinds of workouts including step. i like cathe friedrich step workouts. i have others like karen voight that are really good. i have started to try cathe's rhythmic step which is tricky choreography for me. i have tracey york and michelle doizois step it off videos but they are waaaaayyyyy to difficult for me. do you do any other workouts like kickboxing and weights? kassia
Guest guest
hi cindy!! welcome to the group! it is nice to meet you here! if you like christi, you would like cathe.... and maybe you might like patrick goudeau... maybe charlene prickett's 'crazy for step' workout. there are quite a few others -- go to www.collagevideo.com and do a search on 'step' and check out the 'level' column for advanced workouts. click on one and look for complex choreography. i like to do step too, but due to asthma, i like to do low-impact intermediate intensity workouts. i am also choreographically challenged and if i do a step workout with complex choreo, i have to do it in pieces and practice each piece over and over until i get it! LOL. currently im working on getting past the warmups in cathe friedrich's 'step works' and 'step it off' with michelle dozois and tracy york. anyway, i hope that this helps a little bit. :*carolyn. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Guest guest
Hi and welcome to this group. i was sort of dissappointed in Christi 's latest offerings, but I really like Seasun Zieger's The Next Step workout. You may want to try that. complex step and has a similar feel.cmann46635 <ishop4you@...> wrote: Good morning everyone. Guest guest
Hi ! Welcome. I'm relatively new here too, but everyone has made me feel very at home. I'm Tonya, from Charlotte, NC, Certified Personal Trainer, Aerobics Instructor, and Sports Nutritionist. I'm certified to teach step, but don't do much of it because I've had knee surgery twice and don't want to risk another one. hehe I couldn't walk for a week after my weekend certification course! LOL As for videos, Cathe does some great step. Tamilee Webb does some too. Other then that I'm not sure because I don't really focus on that type of workout. I do wish you were local here to Charlotte, though. I'd tell you a class to go take with an instructor I know. She does some awesome double step classes. I use to love to watch them from the treadmill! Double step is where you have one step on either side of you and do combinations on both steps. It's a really tough fat burning workout. Guest guest
Hello sjnuernberger,Remember to reorganize your clothes and bathroom as well. Anything at knee height will be out of reach for several months. Do you have a grabber?Do you have a shower seat?Do you a handicap toilet seat?Do you need to go upstairs to get in bed? What kind of support have you set-up for the first few weeks? The files at the forum site have lots of great suggestions.Dyann Diamond4 months post-op.From: daisysn2001 <sjnuernberger@...>Subject: [ ] Hello! New here Date: Saturday, August 29, 2009, 2:08 AM Use to lurk around another forum but thanks to Deronda I am here. Started reading posts about 2 hours ago and feel like I found a home. Your backs seem to have similarities with my back. I am having revision surgery on Oct. 7 with Dr. Lenke. I had my first surgery in 1994. In the past few years the pain has got worse and worse down my left hip/leg and it took a long time to talk myself into having another surgery. As of my preop visit on Wed I have a kyphosis 88 degrees that is rotating above my old fusion and a 92 degree curve under. I have been stocking up on groceries/paper goods for the past 4 months and reorganizing, especially the kitchen. It is amazing the stuff one acquires in 15 years. I don't remember having this much to move around back then. Of course, then my son was 1 1/2 now he is 16 and eats like 2 adults he he. Does anyone have any hints that I might not have thought of for organizing the house before surgery?------------------------------------scoliosis veterans * flatback sufferers * revision candidates
Guest guest
Daisy, Welcome to the group. My heart so goes out to anyone who is facing a revision aftrer such a short period of time. 15 years is not a long time....and does this mean that you were dealing with a 1 year old then too...yikes! If you havent found it already, there is a files section on this group that has many tips for preparing for post-op life...as well as the surgical phase. One thing that many have found useful is one of the internet sites that permits you to keep your support network in the " loop " and helps to arrange for the necessary support you are going to need post op. You havent said exactly what you expect from surgery....will you be fused to the sacrum? I know the doctors say there isn't much difference, but as far as accomplishing many household tasks I think my experience was that it does! In any event, it is likely that you will not be able to get anything low for awhile....long enough that it is worth re-arranging your house so that things you need most often (pans, bowls, spices) or will want to have access to in private moments (tampax, TP, laxitive products) should be stocked and placed where you can get then without bending. Think though doing things like laundry and dishwasher loading. Unless you have a very unusual setup these will probably be chores that others will have to do for awhile, so be sure everyone is trained in these activities....including your 16 year old son! Since you will probably not be permitted to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk for 3-6 months, be sure you have made arrangements for shopping and cleaning, and dont let anyone off the hook for these jobs until your doctor releases you to them. Honestly, if you can afford it and if you have a personality that calls you to maintain your home a certain way, consider hiring someone to come in and clean for awhile. It may be the best way to help everyone keep their sanity and your life in order. That way the beds will be changed, the bathrooms cleaned and the house vacuumed often enough that you dont feel like you should attempt it. I am not suggesting more than maybe 3-4 hours a week...just the very basic stuff. Short of that, my two favorite post-op gadgets were my grabber and my long handled janitor styled dust pan. For personal care, I fell in love with those pre-moistened face cleaning cloths which I brought to the hospital and used them through recovery (and to this day) because I dont have to lean forwrd to wash my face. I particualry love the Oil of Olay ones, and the new Ponds ones with the little scrubby nubs! Be sure to consider pre-stocking your medicine cabinet with a variety of laxitive type products. It is a rare person that doesnt need this kind of help following surgery, and having the means at hand to resolve this problem quickly will keep you feeling a whole lot better in the first weeks home. Of course you should also follow your surgeons directions in this regard...and in all things! All for now. Take Care, Cam
Guest guest
Actually, I really only lasted 10 years and have been talking myself into another surgery for the last 5. I am expecting instrumentation removal(old T4-L4) decompression of L4-L5 & L5-S1, Fusion T1-sacrum/ilium with cages placed at L3-4,L4-5, L5-S1 osteotomies at L1-2, L2-3. Makes my head spin just thinking of it. if it takes the pain away good I will do anything to get rid of the pain. I looked at the files section and there were lots of good suggestion especially things to take to the hospital. Like Chapstick, awesome! I have had alot of surgeries(female ones) and always forget that one but it is my bag now. Thanks!
