Guest guest
I have heard fabulous things about NJH. They have a great website for patients. Call them and ask them if they can network with your doctor without you going there first. Like if your doc can send all your records and you can have someone there review them. If your asthma is even partially caused by allergy, Xolair will help you. If your triggers are other than allergy, Xolair might not be helpful. I was at the point of going to NJH and Xolair was approved. It was my " all right, I'll try one more thing but if it doesn't work.... " Xolair has changed my life. I used to have 9-10 upper resp infections a year. Now I have three at the most. I couldn't live without pred. Now I need it maybe 2-3 times a year in short bursts. I hardly take any meds on a daily basis when before I took a minimum of 5 meds every day. Good luck with Xolair. Please let us know what you decide. My pulmo is really pushing for me to go to National Jewish Hospital in Denver to see if they have any ideas on how to help me. He says I am maxed out on treatments and doesn't know what to do about my very frequent, severe attacks. I have not been on Xolair long, but he doesn't think it will help. It is just kind of a last resort effort. Has anyone here been to NJH? I am in Salt Lake City, Utah so it is quite a trip to go. I am also not sure if my insurance will cover any of it. I am just trying to decide if it is going to be worth the expense and time off work. TIA
Guest guest
Thanks so much for the link and your experiences with NJH. I am looking forward to looking into this more to see if it is an option for me. My dr. said he had a few drs. there that he was going to call to consult with about me. I see him again June 12th so hopefully he will have some answers then. Guest guest
If you are thinking about going to National Jewish, get the process started WHILE you think about it. I am on absolutely everything and self-inject epi to stop attacks. My doctor wanted me to go to NJH and I thought about it and looked into it. I finally agreed that it was a good idea even though I live in another state and can ill afford the travel, hotel, and child care. Silly me. I am now approved to go to NJH and can look forward to an appointment in August or September. Meanwhile I have deteriorated to the point that I have absolutely no life and will be on minimum 20 mg daily of evil candy until that appointment. The wait is long, even with a physician's referral. Get the process started. If you want to cancel later, you have that option. But if you wait until you are really desperate, you may have some really ugly scary months ahead of you while you wait for your turn. Guest guest
hades no. unless you see a good doctor forget it. my doctor and i had a shouting match the first day.. i wanted them to run complex immune studies and i was so right and they were only wrong; all they do is repeat very basic tests--it is a total waste and an unfunny waste. I've been on Xolair for 1 1/2 years. In truth, I don't know if it has helped that much. I'm on Theophylline, Pulmicort, Intal, Nascalcrom, albuterol via nebulizer as needed, Allegra 240mgs. Pathetic, eh? I had a really rough weekend. Wheeze, wheeze, wheeze, and my allergies are out of control. Saw my allergist today, and we are adding Singulair to the mix. I guess more to feel that we are doing something. All my other doctors are pushing NJH, but I'm wondering what else could they offer? My insurance won't pay for it willingly, and I do not live in Colorado. Their site says expect to stay one week. That's an awlful lot of cash for me, have them say, " There isn't a much we can offer " . My only blessing is I'm not on Pred for the moment. But I was never on a ton of it to begin with. I have type 2 diabetes, and Pred plays hell with my blood sugar control. Blah..............
