Guest guest
, Hi! I know just how you feel about not being where you would like to be with your weight loss. I am having the same issue. My surgery was 6-2-00, very near your date, and I too have not lost anything since early this year, too early to stop losing. I tried to be patient but eventually I realized this is not a plateau. I am also having a problem with bile reflux. I decided to keep track of this and have discovered that it is about 2-3 times per week. I am not sure what can be done for this. Good luck and please keep me updated on yoour progress. Guest guest
HI Darlene, Thanks for your support, I appreciate it! I plan on attending the picnic on Saturday, so I'm hoping to chat briefly with Dr. R about it. I'll keep you posted. Will you be at the picnic? Are you taking prevacid for your bile reflux? Have you had an endoscopy? I hope you are feeling better. Re: Re: revision >, >Hi! I know just how you feel about not being where you would like to be >with your weight loss. Guest guest
, Thanks for your response and I appreciate your keeping me updated. I will not be able to come to the picnic, but will be thinking about all of you. I have taken different things for the bile reflux but nothing has stopped it. I feel fine except for when I am having the reflux, I do not regret having the surgery that is for sure. I have a doctor's appt for Oct but do not have an endoscopy scheduled. What is the point of the endoscopy? What does that get me? I need clarification on this. I already know I am having bile reflux, if it shows the amount or extent of damage what does that mean? I do not like the idea of having an endoscopy so I need to know more about it. Thanks for all your help. Darlene
Guest guest
Darlene, I don't like the thought of having an endoscopy either but I am in the process of scheduling one. I had a reflux of some sort even before the surgery - don't know whether it is bile or acid. Either way, I know I have it but according to my PCP the gastroenterologist needs to see it and document amount of damage if any. The reflux of bile or acid into your esophagus over the long haul can cause damage which can lead to cancer. This is why you need an endoscopy. Lots of people have reflux of some type and it never changes into anything else but some do -- like my father-in-law. The earlier you know you have a problem the better. There are medications which can now help heal any damage (Nexium) but you need to know if there is damage in your esophagus. Schedule a baseline endoscopy please --- and then follow the advice of your gastroenterologist on whether you need treatment, etc. as well as when he/she would recommend another endoscopy. Be well! in GA Re: Re: revision , Thanks for your response and I appreciate your keeping me updated. I will not be able to come to the picnic, but will be thinking about all of you. Guest guest
The Endoscopy will ease your mind that there are no real problems down there OR relieve your mind if they do find something that they can treat to help with the problem. It is a GOOD thing to have done. aW Re: Re: revision , Thanks for your response and I appreciate your keeping me updated. Guest guest
Hi...I'm new to this group and am interested in y'all's advice. I live in the Houston area and had the Harrington Rod surgery in 1981 at the age of 35. Obviously, that makes me 63 and I have recently been diagnosed with flatback. The surgery done in 1981 was by Dr. Wendell Erwin of Scoliosis Associates. The correction was good. Don't remember degrees. Now, I have been to Dr Hanson who was affiliated with dr.s of that group. I'm having a ct/myleogram tomorrow. So far, he has told me about the surgery and it sounds like the pain after it will be worse than the original in 1981. I read on a forum (that I can't seem to get back to!) that there is a excellent surgeon in West Texas that many have been to, liked and even had surgery there. Does anyone know of this dr? I think I might remember his name if I see it. I believe a second opinionj is indicated here! Thanks in advance, Carolyn
