Guest guest Posted February 21, 2005 Report Share Posted February 21, 2005 Hi tristate, I had a Hip and Knee replacement on my right side my knee isn't that bad but I have what you call scar tissues and I'm big bone I told my dr for 3 years about how the hip bother me all he would say is bad scar tissues so I didn't go back to him I'm going to find a new dr soon. The only thing I can say is find a differant dr . Well I wish you the best of luck and have a nice day. Guest guest Posted September 15, 2005 Report Share Posted September 15, 2005 I think it would depend on if you are talking about a revision because you are sick.. or a revision because you haven't lost enough weight. The " reversal " because of sickness should be pretty obvious. If you haven't lost all the weight you want to lose it would be a decision that you would need to make whether or not you would spend $17K to lose additional weight. In my case -- I am about 40 pounds over weight I would like to be. I would love to lose the weight but I know in my heart that I really put for the effort I can ... I am not trying diligently enough. Even if I had $17K I personally would not have a revision to lose the additional weight for fear that it would then take me too thin, sick, etc. It would not be worth the risks for me personally. Guest guest Posted September 15, 2005 Report Share Posted September 15, 2005 , I knew I needed the revision because I only had a two foot bypass because of liver disease. I lost 80 lbs and had about another 70 that I would like to lose. So a year after the original surgery, I had the revision. They bypassed another 5 ft for a total of 7 feet bypass. My stomach was in great shape and didnt need anthing done to it. My liver disease has been resolved and I am healthy. I am down a total of 125 lbs. I would still like to lose another 37 lbs. But I am happy. I think it needs to be an individual decision. I did call CLOS and talk with them about the revision. Yes it cost another 17,000. No I didnt have insurance coverage either time. I only lost about 60 pounds from my original surgery. I had surgery in 10/07/1999, so I am almost 6 years post op. I had no complications from my original surgery. It has been becoming more loose over the last 3 years but I wasn't ready to go through the surgery again so I've been putting it off. Dr. finally said I can't put it off any longer because it's wearing away the pelvis. My hip story: motorcycle accident in August of 1998, hip was shattered and displaced quite a bit. I had it pinned & screwed together and kept my fingers crossed (and stayed on crutches/cane) for 18 months. Finally, consented to hip replacement when I realized it was never going to mend. Had an uncemented RTHR in January 2000 but continued to have problems since then. I had a long recovery from the THR, but then I did have a couple of pretty good years when I had pain only on a lot of exertion or a change in weather. Then 3 years ago the pain started to steadily increase. So, I'm scheduled for the revision in January. I'll need some bone grafting done, and they're replacing the ball also. I'm not sure of the materials being used. I've got a list of questions for my next OS appointment. My OS said I'll probably be in a brace after the surgery!! Did you have to wear one? My mind kinda went out the window when he said that and I didn't ask the questions I should have. Home the next day?? You were so lucky. It all went very well and I was out of the hospital in three days and back to work in three weeks. Good luck on you revision. I had a two foot bypass because of the discovery of liver disease when Dr. R opened me up. I lost about 70 lbs. One year later in Feb 05 I had a revision. Dr. R bypassed 5 more ft. The liver had healed up too. I lost another 85 lbs. I would do it again. Best decision I had was to do the revision. It was not the same as the first time. For one thing, your stomach doesnt hurt. You are hungry because you are used to eating. But I started over with the re-feeding program and followed it exactly. I didnt have shoulder pain the first time, but did the second time. I had a revision in Oct.But it wasn't a complete revision the OS removed a lot of scar tissue and put in a smaller spacer. I too have nothing but trouble with my right knee.It almost straight but I can only get about 80% bend. My OS said it may not get any better than that. He happy that I can walk. I have 65 pounds more to lose. I'm only 5'1.5 " tall. My PCP and I have agreed that 110 is a reasonable ideal body weight to shoot for.
