Genz, So sorry to hear you have not been doing well. I am sure that the

weight thing is not your priority now but relieving the pain and one works

against the other.

I have not been able to work out since my accident and started therapy last

week so plan to start walking again this week. I would sure love to loose at

least 10 pounds this month. I walked a few days a few weeks ago with Mickey

and then his knee started hurting again. He went to the dr. last week and

was diagnosed with a spur (s) under his kneecap. He also has osteoarthritis

in that knee so is in pain a great deal of the time if he does any

exercising. Right now he is out playing golf so I guess that is not

exercising. He left me orders to get him an appointment with an orthopedic

surgeon. I hope I still get to the picnic. I am planning on it and if he is

recuperating I guess he can do it alone.

I like the way you think. Having surgery and recuperating at sea sounds

like a great idea. I also agree with what you said about where you are now.

Even though my loss is less than 115, I am still very happy that I have had

the original surgery. I feel as though I want to complete the process.

Isn't it just too weird? You, Shea, V and I. If it weren't for

Trish being in the same boat with us. I would say it was the cruise that did

it. However we were all within about a week.

pre-op and were scheduled for the same day. Remember that? Then you

decided not to wait and jumped ahead in line, remember that too? I would

You know if Painfully Thin Flo hadn't been on that cruise I would tend

to agree with you.LOL It seems all my littermates Lori, Flo, Toni,

Francene and have done very well....I guess since I was the last

one of the day and the lightest one of the bunch I got the

conservative cut!!!!!! Sure wish my littermates hadn't worn him out

before he got to me!!!!!LOL

I think it would be great to have you for an official littermate

again!!!!! Let's do it......all of us in one litter!!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your story. As I said a number of

people want to consider revisions but also they want to know that

there is a chance it will support their weight loss. It's alot to

invest and not lose much weight so I think it's a very valid question

and issue for them. I am happy for you and glad you are losing. Good

luck with your further endeavors to be the healthiest and happiest

you can be. Gee, no gas huh? What a great side affect or additional

bonus!!!!

I had my original MGB on 9-15-00. I was 270 and lost to 200. I

stopped losing and gained back to 225. I went to see Dr. R and we

decided on a revision. I had the revision on 5-15-02. I ate less

after the revision but didn't lose anything for four months. I went

to see Dr. R after about three months of no loss and we discussed

another revision after six months. I went home and talked to my

family about it and thought about it. I decided that I would not

have another revision. I came through the surgery twice with no

complications and I was afraid I would be pressing my luck to do it

again. After I wrote Dr. R of my decision, I started to lose

weight. I am now at 190. I hope to lose more but I feel better now

at this weight than I've felt in a long time.

I should note that I have not been able to exercise because of a bad

knee. I had authroscopic surgery on it on Dec. 30. I have a torn

minuscus, osteoarthritis, and bone on bone. The surgeon hopes this

will put off knee replacement for awhile. I am going to physical

How have you done since your revision? I really need to have one done, but

at the present time cannot afford it. I am saving with that in mind, but I

want to know how successful a second time around is before I commit.

I just had my 7 year old THR revised on June 7. So far it is easier

than the THR. They just replaced the stem because it had loosened

due to an auto accident, the cup and liner showed no wear. The THR

was done at age 40 and is metal/poly and cemented. The revision is

the same. The doc said I did not loose any more bone with this

revision. Said if I am lucky it will last 20 years. All

restrictions will be lifted after 3 months, except for running,

jumping and kicking.

My doc was not keen on the ceramic or metal. Does do the mini, but

with AVN it may be better to see all the necrotic bone to clean it

out. There are resurfacing and grafts. There are docs at Duke and

in Baltimore that are expert in those.

Research, research and research. I did and still went for the

conventional THR.

Hi Mina,

I had the same worries as you regarding a young THR and the

possibility of running out of revisions (and not being able to walk

etc). You do plan to have a THR or ressurfacing at some point for

your AVN?

I was very fortunate meet a radiographer who was around 40 and had

had a 3rd revision of her hip (due to the fact that she had a THR 20

years ago when the technology was not so good). She was x-raying me

and running around fine! I was bawling my eyes out and she managed

to reassure me the revisions dont need to be a worry.

Seems to me that the doctors give you lots of scare storries about

revisions to put you off a THR and then when you have had enough-

everything suddenly seems surgically possible:-)

I'm 31 and me and my os decided to have a metal/poly, and with

careful followup hopefully it will just be the poly liner that needs

replaced. Ceramic sound good, metal on metal also- I guess it just

depends on the surgeon prefers-. May last longer, worth a try.

I guess all I am saying is that you can spend hours wondering about

the what ifs and the best hip-and then you talk to a surgeon who you

trust and go with his ideas in the end. A good surgeon will make

sure whatever type you have is revisable-I guess the op just gets

trickier but thats what their paid for:-)

I hope some of this helped aleviate your worries and searching the

net you will soon become an 'expert' on these topics. These are just

my thoughts,

Hi ... Thanks for writing... and YES!! BC/BS did reimburse me for

my first MGB... but, that was wayyyyy back in 2000 when they were

covering the MGB. This revision came out of my pocket.

About my traveling to California... I have no doubt that Dr. R trained

some EXCELLENT surgeons in North Carolina and Michigan and elsewhere!!

That never came into question.. but, I wanted the same surgeon to do my

revision that did my initial surgery. Turns out Dr R was in California.

He's been working with one surgeon (Dr Perogli) and another was " taking

a peek " . My surgery was quick, relatively painless and after " time

served " at my hotel, walking, going to the mall, seeing a movie... I'm

back home in Charlotte, NC.

I had surgery in HIgh Point with both Dr. Rutledge and Dr. Walsh. I have

since had two surgeries done by Dr. Walsh (at the same time, umbilical hernia

benign, which mine was. When I lost weight, it became unsightly. My husband
