Guest guest
Dr Rand's surgical coordinator said that I couldn't use my adhustable bed either - that I had to lay flat. My husband has GERD and sleep apnea and is on a CPAP machine so we always slept with the head slightly elevated. I was told that would not be allowed. I had to keep the bed flat. In fact...I think I specifically remember a Rand patient that suggested the zero gravity chairs. Here is a picture of one...not that I am recommending this particular one: > > > > http://www.brookstone.com/Zero-Gravity-Lounge-Chairs.html?bkeid=compare|mercent|\ googlebaseads|search & mr:trackingCode=8C0C04EF-B6CF-DE11-A84F-0019B9C2BEFD & mr:ref\ erralID=NA & GANTrackingID=brookstone_330793865 > > > > As to comfort...how about the water if your incisions are healed? I just bet you find tremendous relief floating in a warm water therapy pool. And you could water walk. I just can vividly recall the first time I was able to go back to the pool and the relief I felt being weightless. I dont know if it was the surgery or the meds, but I was just kind of touched out. Sensitive in a weird way. > > > > I think when I was discharged the instructions were just walking and to try to add a mile a month. When I asked about this I was a little incredulous...I had always walked and hiked and with my long legs can cover some ground....but a 5 or 6 mile walk would take a few hours and I cant believe they really think patients will find that kind of time! In the end I just worked up to walking for about and hour and I tried to do it every day. I figured at my rate that was somewhere in the 2-3 miles. I think you should try to clarify the walking goal and just do your best trying to reach them....thats really all you can do. > > > > I am sure the bone growth stimulators have evolved. I know I saw one a few years ago and the battery set up was different, and it is entirely possible that they have either determined that 8 hours was too long, or perhaps it has to do with the surgery being anterior and posterior in my case...maybe I had more bone to grow? Anyway....I will be interested to hear what Beth finds out about using it laying down....because that was okay with the model I had...so I just slept with it on at night. > > > > Just take it easy with your hubby gone.
