Guest guest
Janine, I understand excactly what you mean but this total disreguard and misconception that we choose not to eat. Not that we CAN'T eat. I have received one of my discharge form from a Doctor in charge of the Gastroentestional Science ward of a major hospital (Monash) here in Melbourne. Only to read with such anger that I wrote to him telling him " To get it straight. " that my discharge diagnosis was Achalasia. Malnutrition. Chronic pain and Eating disorder He used to come to the bedside and point to the Psych ward, and eating disorder floor, directly opposite my room and say " If you keep this up, you will end up in there. " Why, I explained while steaming out of my ears with anger, would someone with 'anorexia' eat cheese, which I would eat like crazy. Or buy and eat high fat and calorie foods and hate being so skinny? He couldn't answer that. I think most of us have been in this position in hospital or another Doctor or even Casualty. Vent on. Guest guest
Hi Janine, Sorry to hear you're so upset. I think when I was first admitted to hospital 20 years ago, they were checking for signs of a disorder, as they were checking my finger nails to see if there was staining from making my self throw up. Luckliy, after they actually diagnosed it, I ended up with one of the best GI doctors in Canada. He was a real sweetheart. Just like a regular old farm boy. But, it's true, I went from 235 to 159 in two months. My dr wasn't paying attention to what I was saying because I was so big to begin with. It was a dr on duty during my dr's holidays that ordered a simple barium swallow and found the achalasia. I was the first case my local GI had seen of achalasia since he started his practice and it was 2 years at that point. That's why he sent me to Toronto to my specialist there. As for sedation for motility test, I don't know if they do. I would think it could interfere with the results. Well, I hope all works out for you. We need to get it out there about Achalasia and that it is a disease and not an eatin disorder. You take care and don't work about ignorant dr's. We know what's true. bye for now, janinezoltan <janinegraeff@...> wrote: hello all,I had to go over to the hospital today and pick up my records thatpertained to my 7 day stay in April. Guest guest
Janine Hi again. Am reading posts after a few days off....saw you are going to Shands. Guess you live close? I live in Eustis - South of G'ville. I went to Tampa Gen. for my surgery on 6/5 by Dr. Rosemurgy. He is a great surgeon - not really easy to get in touch with following surgery but I would rather have a GREAT surg than a caregiver. Just wondering if you would change your location to Tampa. They are very familiar with A. Tammy very upset hello all,I had to go over to the hospital today and pick up my records thatpertained to my 7 day stay in April. I need them for when I go toShands. Guest guest
Hey, just make sure that the Dr has done LOTS of myotomies......I am pretty sure that mine worked but I am having lots of problems with my stomach accepting the food now. It all goes down - very small amounts at a time - b/c I get very full and if I go past that then my stomach pains - but then in a little while I go to the bathroom. From all I am reading, it just takes time after a major surgery. Just b/c it is a lap surgery, doens't mean it is simple....it is a major surgery and our bodies have to repair. I am just getting impatient. Anyway, good luck and keep us posted. Tammy very upset hello all,I had to go over to the hospital today and pick up my records thatpertained to my 7 day stay in April. Guest guest
Janine I'm not sure about the web site. I think you can google A. doctors, etc. and then if you find their names, look them up. I found Dr. Rosemurgy's name and then looked him up ....he had done around 400 myotomies for A. patients and more for GERD patients. He even had A. listed as a specialty - rare from what I found. Notan and others may know more about searching. Good luck. Tammy very upset hello all,I had to go over to the hospital today and pick up my records thatpertained to my 7 day stay in April. Guest guest
Unfortunately, many of us have been through the same. It's one thing with friends and family - they don't really get it - but to have Doctors be so flippin ignorant - it just chafes my backside!!! I was told, because I was 13-14 years old at the time that I had a 'rats tail' esophagus - you know, very common in girls, puberty that kind of thing. What a quack! I do NOT take comfort from the fact that this stupidity extends beyond the borders of this country. At least for now, you can take comfort in knowing that we are here and we do GET IT. Hang in there. Guest guest
I had x-rays taken yesterday for the study I am participating in (yoga vs. osteoporosis). The doctor's office (my endocrinologist) and said the radiologist's report said that it appeared that some screws were loose and I should contact my orthopedist. I have forwarded the images to Dr. Hey and his PA, Brittany. If it is loose (I think it is the screw in the left pelvis), it would explain the pain I have been having. I am in tremendous pain right now with my hardware because of the front coming up the coast (Ida). Please pray that in this case the radiologist is misreading the films due to lack of experience with this type of hardware. I had x-rays in September at Dr. Hey's office and everything was fine then. Guest guest
Peggy, I do hope and pray that all is well with your hardware and that this is a case of an inexperienced doctor misreading the films. I can only imagine how upsetting this must be for you. Hang in there! Jeanne [ ] very upset I had x-rays taken yesterday for the study I am participating in (yoga vs. osteoporosis). Guest guest
Peggy, Oh dear...that is unnerving. I hope that nothing is amiss...but you wouldnt be the first person to have screws loose (no pun intended!). If DrHey responds that everything is a-okay, are you going to be comfortable resting on that answer if the pain continues? Please let us know what you find out. Take Care, Cam
Guest guest
Hi Peggy... I think it's not uncommon for iliac screws or bolts to be a little loose. It may or may not have any effect on the fusion. Even if the screw is loose, and it's affecting your fusion, the fix is usually pretty simple (at least in comparison to what you went through with the prior surgery). Hang in there. Guest guest
Peggy, I'm so sorry to hear about your pain and potential screw issue. You were such a help to me when I was preparing for my surgery with Dr. Hey a few months ago. I'll be praying for you that it's nothing serious and there is a simple resolution. > > I had x-rays taken yesterday for the study I am participating in (yoga vs. osteoporosis). Guest guest
I am very upset at the moment, have been given my 3rd lot of antibiotics for a foot infection. I was rung by a Dr this morning to say they think I may have DVT and should perhaps go into Bury for admission. I said I would wait until next week which she said is OK, I have a 3rd lot of antibiotics to finish. I'm really cross, Why didn't the other 4 Drs think of it before especially as I am on water tablets etc and have curviture of the spine which can cause circulation problems etc. Two of them said I have a tendon problem and the other 2 gave me antibiotics. I am in such a state now, worrying myself sick, I don't want to go into hospital, I have to go to Papworth in a couple of weeks for a sleep study and am having a mole taken off next Friday. Many thanks Liz.
