I don't blame you about not wanting to take more evil candy, but you need to breathe man. My advice? Tell your doctor and give it more time with the Xolair. Trust her judgement. Remember, it took me about a year to get any relief. Doug
Guest guest
Hi Steve, I also have crazy sinus drainge problems. I use Nasonex nasal steroid spray, OTC Sudafed, and use daily sinus irrigation to help reduce the problem. Some people like Dr. Grossan's Hydropulse machine, and other people recommend a manual saline spray called Sinus Rinse: http://www.neilmed.com/ If you haven't tried the irrigation yet, I would highly recommend it. Hope you feel better soon! > 3. Guest guest
Steve, I have one more thought...there is a fairly new nasal antihistamine spray out called Astelin. I tried it, and it really dried up my nose, but it was almost too drying for me. It also gave me a lot of sinus pain, but I'm very sensitive. It might be worth trying though... > > > 3. Guest guest
, I have also tried Nasonex, and Rinacourt and many other sinus sprays without extended results. Since my second nasal surgery in September 2005, I have used a saline nasal irritation from time to time. I haven't done so in about a month. I can't recall if it helped or not. I know it was somewhat bothersome with all the other things I have to remember to do. I also use 4 steroid nasal drops in each nostril 3 times a day. I am told this keeps polyps from growing in the nasal canal and sinuses. I use a CPAP every night and bronchial expanders which makes it easy to breathe. I take an insulin shot AM and PM and a Byetta injection before each meal. Every two weeks I get a xolair injection in each arm. Plus the large number of pills I take each morning and evening. What is Dr. Grossmans machine? I never in a million years thought I would have to so much to feel good. I guess I am going to have to go back to the irrigations. Maybe I did not do the irrigating long enough to gain a benefit. I also have a saline nasal spray at my desk at work that I have not used in a while. I guess I will try using that again also. It can't hurt. Thanks for the recommendations. ~STEVE ZIMMERMAN, CPM, CVOM~ ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Wednesday, May 10, 2006 4:02 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Prednisone again? Guest guest
Thanks I will give it a try. ~STEVE ZIMMERMAN, CPM, CVOM~ ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Wednesday, May 10, 2006 4:10 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Prednisone again? Guest guest
Steve, I have used regular saline spray on and off for years, but have never seen much benefit from it. The best relief I've gotten from the horrible postnasal drip has been from the full-blown sinus irrigation. I have some pretty big nasal polyps, so I haven't been able to use typical methods of irrigation...the water just doesn't come out the other nostril like it's supposed to. A few months ago, I started using the Rinoflow system every day, and it has made a big difference. The Rinoflow is kind of like a nasal nebulizer. Here are a few more links for you...one of them explains the HydroPulse system. You can also purchase the nasal irrigator tip by itself to use with a WaterPik or Interplak dental system if you prefer. Grossan's Hydro Pulse Irrigation Machine: http://www.alerg.com/page/A/PROD/SST/SST2000 Rinoflow System: http://www.alerg.com/page/A/PROD/SST/SST2500 Rinoflow on Ebay: (I purchased mine here - all crucial parts are sealed) http://tinyurl.com/e5pxe Other sinus products: http://www.alerg.com/page/A/CTGY/SST Dr. Grossan's ENT forum: earnosethroat/ I will admit, it is quite a pain to irrigate on a daily basis, and I totally understand how you feel about having to do so many things and take so many meds to feel well. It's definitely worth it in the end though. I would highly recommend that you to give irrigation a try! Please let me know if you have any questions. I've tried so many sinus products, it's ridiculous! Take care, Note: I am not affiliated wtih any of the above websites. Just a satisfied customer! Guest guest
Steve - hang in there with Xolair. It took me 3 months to see improvement and about 6 months to get full results. Xolair really helped my allergic rhinitis. I use National Jewish hospital's recipe for making your own saline nasal wash. When I'm very congested, I use that 3-4 times a day. Additionally, I use Astelin and a prescription drug called Rescon MX, which is wonderful. It has time-released sudafed (a ton of it), an anticholinergic (which helps control mucus) and a little antihistamine, which I can take on top of my claritin. If you can't take sudafed, well, it's not for you. But you might try it. Addy > > I am on Prednisone .5mg every other day. I have been on pulse doses > as high as 60mg then tapering off.
