Guest guest
I have a question that a medical person might be able to answer. I have been taking prednisone for a while to reduce my asthma and allergy effects. For a cheap medication it works well. Unfortunately, serious problems can be caused due to prolonged used of this medication. Until yesterday, I have been tapering down and have been on a relatively low dose for a while now. This last week all my symptoms of shortness-of-breath, wheezing and much coughing and gagging trying to expel to stuff in to be able to breathe comfortably again has returned with a vengence. As a result I have been placed on higher doses of prednisone for a week to resolve the problem and then to back to 5 mg every other day. I have started the higher dose and in one day I feel much better and the congestion, etc. is almost gone. My questions are: What is in predisone that relieves alergy symptoms so fast? I know it is an anti-inflammatory medication that has been aroung for quite a while but what specifically is the ingredient? Why can't a new pill be developed or this ingredient be identified and reproduced in a pill or liquid that is less destructive to the organs and bones of our bodies? We know how to send men to the moon and send cameras to the distant planets to take pictures but have no other options other than to dispense body damaging prednisone to make people feel better. This amazing!! The doctors I have asked seem to have no answer. Is there a very similiar and just as effective medication that I can ask my doctor about that is not so destructive? Thanks for any comments.
