Guest guest
I've been looking over the Xolair dosing charts, and if my IgE level is still 192 like it was a year ago, I would only be getting 300 mg once a month. Is anyone here on once-monthly dosing? If so, have your symptoms improved? Does the medication seem to last the entire month before your next dose? It seems like so many people here report that their symptoms start returning even before their next dose in 2 weeks, let alone 4 weeks! It's very likely that my IgE level will be higher now since I was on 60 mg of prednisone last time it was taken. If so, I would fall in the 225 mg/twice monthly dosing range. I definitely can't afford 4 vials a month out-of-pocket, so I hope that my IgE is under 200 so I would only need 2 vials (or I can lose 10 pounds instead!) At the same time, I am afraid that once-monthly dosing won't be as effective. I'd love to hear your opinions! Thanks! , 32, Louisville
Guest guest
, You can probably choose to take a lower dose if you need to. Ask your doc or specialty pharmacy about it. Monthly dosing will probably take a little longer for you to see full effect of Xolair than if you are going every 2 weeks. Many of us experience a " set back " of some kind just before our next dose is due, especially in the first year of taking Xolair. Guest guest
Addy, Thanks for the input. I'm sure I'll have to take the lower dose if I can't get insurance coverage or get into a study. Either way, $1,000 out-of-pocket is nothing to sneeze at! I'm sure I'll have to sell my car to help fund the Xolair shots...but it would be worth it if I could start living like a semi-normal person again.
