Guest guest
God bless you Jim. Did your pain management specialist offer Medial block? I'm having part two on Monday where they brurn off the nerves causing the pain. My spine is pretty well shot from head to butt and I am always trying something the docs are willing to do. There are many people here with all kinds of spine problems and pain. You have found a place where people understand and comfort. ivan From: james.neal75 <james.neal75@...> Subject: spinal cord commpression injury spinal problems Date: Saturday, October 25, 2008, 9:10 PM Hi, My name is Jim, i'm new to this site. just a little information about myself. I'm 49 years old. I had a fall back in sep 05 of about 4 ft that resulted in me injuring my spinal cord. My injury the way it was explain to me. my spinal cord had swell up which is why i was paralize from c3-c4 on down for about 4 days. luckly god answer my prayers and was able to regain movement in my arms and legs. i was in rehab for 6 months before i finally able to take care of my self. the reason i'm writing here is get to know people that has had a spinal cord injury. seems like people that hasn't had a injury like doesn't under what each one of us go thru everday. at least my family doesn't i still have pain in my neck and a burning stabbing pain in shoulders and arms. and numbness in my hands. i had a c3-c4 neck fusion done in apr 06 due to the disk being against my spinal cord. i currently have a hernated disc at c6-c7. the dr could not be 100% sure that removing it will take care of the pain. so i'm still trying to make up my mind if it's worth it or not. i've try different things for pain management that has not help (trigger point injections, 2 injections of i beleve is sterolds in my neck. med that i've try are neurothin, sylaxining, lyrica and hydrcodin none of the above has help my pain, so any other ideas are welcome. i'm currently on 30 mg slow release morphine tabs that i take 1 every 12 hrs. hope to hear from you jim

Guest guest
Welcome to the group Jim. I'm not an official greater, just a member. I had some of the similar problems with pain meds in 02, that never worked also, and surgery was indicated for me. Not saying you should take this course, because I am in no way a professional in the medical field, just my .02 cents worth. Indeed you are a very lucky man concerning recovery, but that could also like you said be an answer to prayer, it was not you destiny. Hopefully you will find the right way, just be sure of your decision. Guest guest
Hello Jim, I will introduce myself..i'm pretty new here too. My name is Sue, I am going to be 48, and was orginally injured in an automobile accident, and used to work for the phone company installing phones, and repair. My husbands name is Jim too! and we have 4 grown boys, 2 grandchildren and 2 on the way. That will be exciting. I'm sooo so sorry you are going through this and without the understanding of your family. I can't imagine how hard that is for you. You will be in our prayers. I have had a milder episode of spinal cord compression and am fused with titanium on c 3-6, and I have been on a lot of different meds. For your extended release morphine, is it called ms contin? They also have an instant release morphine pill to take ontop of that for when the pain gets bad, and it does work pretty fast. That helped me a lot when I was on that course. For the Lyrica, that didn't help me much until they put me on a higher dosage--150mg twice a day. The muscle spasms are really bad, and was put on Skelaxin. It worked wonders for quiet a while. Sometimes the spasms can be the worse, huh? You might ask the doctor about those. And the anxiety when the pain gets really bad usually needs to be treated too. But you probably already know this... Maybe ask about a fentynal patch for pain. It gives you continued pain meds for 3 days. I find for me it only lasts for almost 2 days. right now my doctor has me on a mixture of different pain meds... percocet - dilaudid - fentynal patch my non pain meds are... lyrica - skelaxin - ativan - restoril The skelaxin I have to take 3 times a day, but it can be hard on the stomach, so prilosec is also needed to protect my stomach. It really is a trial and error thing sometimes, because every one reacts different to medications, and I hope you find something that gives you some real relief. It can take some time to figure out what works and what doesn't, but you need a doctor that will really work with you and try different things. Have you thought about getting a second opinion? I know its hard to find a good surgeon. That is a feat in itsself. Well, I hope this finds you feeling a little better, wishing you a lot of gentle pain free moments. take care. Guest guest
Well I've had a myelogram done years ago... And when I had it done, it was quiet painful. I guessing it gives more detailed information about the nerves in the spine. Mind you I had it done 10+ years ago, so I don't know if things have changed.. I think I will google that one myself and see what I find. I'm so glad you have a good doctor, that is always a plus. Maybe there is somebody that has had one done recently that has more info for ya. Hope you're having a good day. Guest guest
Sue, I have a feeling that a lot of docs no longer do mylograms and discogram's. There is really no longer a need to as the MRI as replaced those tests and are able to yield better results. This is totally off subject but I am watching a ridiuculous commercial....they have come out with a drug for erectile dysfunction (cialis) that states you take it daily.....it says " be ready for sex at any time " Great, who needs to be ready all the time.. and if they will pay for ready all the time....why won't pay for pain free all the time. Guest guest
Hi Deb, I wondered why they would still do one of those, I don't know exactly what they show that an MRI does or doesn't. When I went to the doctors the other day, he said he wants to do one after another course of physical therapy.. is there a difference on one or the other because of the titanium? Does titanium blurr the area being examined I've pondered... Or why sometimes when they want to do a catscan instead of an MRI. I just don't know if I would ever want to go through one of those again. I would rather be put to sleep for one of those. I apologize for so many questions.. And I have so many more, but truthfully I think what you do is so wonderful. You really help a lot of people here.. To have questions answered at a time of disarray. All the while dealing with your own issues. I hope you yourself are doing better each and every day. I think we ALL tip our hats off to you.... as for the cialis, evidently the none of the researchers that deveoped that, do not suffer pain... To have a miracle drug to stop pain for us would help more than us, the ripple effect for something like that would be almost endless... but, money first i guess... Heres wishing you many many pain free moments Deb. Take care. god speed. sue. > > > > > > > > Hi, My name is Jim, i'm new to this site. just a little > > > information > > > > about myself.
