I have been on Xolair since September of 2003 and am doing quite well on it. Haven't had one side effect (except my wallet) See my earlier post). Within the last several months, I have had pain in my right elbow joint. I have just brushed it off as tendonitis or the beginnings of arthritis (I am 51) and haven't even mentioned to my doctor about it. I am sure the xolair is not the problem but I will ask him anyway. Guest guest
hi, is it possible that the joint pain is the early onset of arthritiis, or something of the like?? being on prednisone would mask that, so once we come off it, BAM there's the joint pain. its just a thought. i know it happened for me, but early onset arthritis runs in my family. heather uca79iii <uca79iii@...> wrote: --- In , " musiclover0 " <musiclover0@...> wrote: > > Hello, my name is megan and i have been currently taking xolair for > about 1 year and 1/2. Guest guest
I have stiff joints all over. Chalked it up to pred withdrawl. Docs agree. maybe its just wear and tear? ps Novartis is very strict about adverse reactions. I had a big asthma flare this summer and my pulmo had to fill in forms for Novartis in case this was an adverse drug reaction. He was annoyed at the paper work. __________________________________________________________ Find your next car at http://autos..ca
Guest guest
Long term use of steroids can demineralize bones. We all should be on a calcium supplement with vitamin D and phosphorous. Vit. D & Phos. carry the calcium into the bones. That is unless you have a kidney or other condition your physician had told you not to take vitamin supplements. Steroids also decrease inflammation everywhere, so it is more than probable that the joint pain is because the anti-inflammatory medication is no longer there. Whether the joint pain is the bone demineralization and the bones rubbing together or it is arthritis or another inflammatory condition is for a physician to diagnose. If it bothers you daily then it is something to be checked into right a way. If it bothers once in a while, and aleve, motrin, ibuprophen, tylenol, or aspirin helps and you can take it, then it isn't an urgency to see a physician. You can keep your next appointment with your family physician and discuss it with them then. All of us should keep a list of things we want to discuss with the physician. Even if we post it on the refrigerator to add to when we think of a question. Hand a copy of the list to your physician and keep one for yourself. Jot notes on it as you speak about each item. This makes you more involved in your care and assures you are well taken care of. Physicians buck at this at first, but then see it as a great tool to take care of you better. Health & happiness to all. Pat --------------------------------- Use Photomail to share photos without annoying attachments.
Guest guest
, It is the Prednisone. When I was on stronger doses and the doctor weaned me down I found that my joints hurt all over (actually every bone in my body hurt) I could hardly get out of the chair much less walk around as I got down to the lower doses. I am currently on 7.5 mg every other day and I have not experienced the joint pain. It may be that since I have been on this lower dose for a while my body has become used to it. ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Tuesday, February 21, 2006 9:45 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Xolair study I have stiff joints all over. Guest guest
I had the same problem when I started coming off pred when the Xolair really started working. Problem for me: arthritis and osteoporosis run in the family. I already have early signs of both. If joint pain persists over time, or is severe, be sure to see your doctor. Other symptoms I had coming off pred - headaches and severe fatigue. The fatigue would come on suddenly and heavily. It's important to keep your doc informed. I had some short term adrenal insufficiency, but there is no cure for that except - you guessed it - more pred! Good luck! --- In , " Steve Zimmerman " <steve@...> wrote: > > , > > It is the Prednisone. Guest guest
, I am in a xolair study and i actually go to the doctor in louisville for this. I go to the allergy and asthma clinic downtown. I normally see Dr. Guin, but on occasion see Dr. Sublet. My xoliar study isn't paid for, my insurance has to pay for it. and i was put on it for asthma and allergy reasons. what doctor do you see? anyway, i hope that this can be of any help. `
Guest guest
Hi , It's a small world...I actually see Dr. Pollard at the same practice you do - Family Allergy & Asthma. He and Dr. Sublett founded the practice together. I get allergy shots at the main office on Shelbyville Road, but I've been to the downtown office a few times. Thanks for letting me know about the study...at least I know now that they have other patients on Xolair. I don't have asthma, so I doubt I can get my insurance to cover the Xolair study, but I guess it's worth a try. Hopefully Dr. Pollard will be open to the idea - he's never offered it, probably because he knows I'd have to pay for it out-of- pocket. Do you have any information on what exactly they're studying? Thanks so much!
