Guest guest
I had same surgery one year ago. Surgery took three hours-my doctor send patients to surgical critical care for few hours afterwards to get pain " under control " . My surgery was at 11am and to regular floor in hospital around 5pm. Was in worst pain about that time. I had one big drain for two days. Woke up on my back. i think on your side would be too painful. Was able to get up and use restroom 24 hours later. U will have a urinary catheter so wont have to worry about getting up for a day or so. My advice to u-it is painful make sure nurses are giving all the pain meds they can, this includes muscle relaxers. Make sure you have someone to care for u when u get home. Get slip on shoes. Get one of those cane things that has a grabber at the end of it-to pick things up around house. Make sure you have a big ice pack for home. Long term-it is a long recovery and sometimes is not the answer to the problem. Be patient and listen to your body. Is your doctor sending you home with a brace? If so wear it-if i am having a bad day i still wear it-you will get used to it quickly. My op is at 07:00 and they say I should be back on the ward for 11:00, but that seems very quick to me.I'm told I'll have four drains in my back, so will I wake up on my side or front, or will they hold well enough for me to be on my back? How long before they drains go (if all goes well) and I can get out of bed to go to the toilet, etc?Any other advice would be most welcome.Thanks,Gareth. _________________________________________________________________ Get Free (PRODUCT) REDâ„¢ Emoticons, Winks and Display Pics. http://joinred.spaces.live.com?ocid=TXT_HMTG_prodredemoticons_052008
Guest guest
My drains were in up until 1 hour before I left the hospital. As far as visitors, I had two come visit on day 2 and all I did was sleep while they were there. I was heavily medicated and needed the rest. I actually didn't really want to see anyone (other than my husband) for about a week. Everyone is different, but after that major of a surgery (it is NOT like it is on T.V.) just recovering is hard enough, much less carrying on a conversation!
