Shoulder pain

Hi Katalin,

I ended up using Panadol suppositories and crushing degas, as well as using a heated wheat bag and topical votaren gel . It didn't completely cure it- the only thing that will is time, rest and a little movement- I walked around and around the house- it is referred pain from the CO2 around your diaphragm that they used to distend your tummy cavity so they can manouvre around, and will eventually disperse- little comfort, I know for now, but rest assured it's only a temporary thing. A good f@rt or two may also ease the situation a bit.

You should have seen me, I was in stacks of (unexpected) abdominal pain, and you should have seen the photos of Mel's bruising!!!!

Hugs,

Thanks , I knew someone will put this in perspective for me!

If it's not forever, I can take it, and if others has suffered a

stack more, then I will shut up! :-)

Thank you again,

Hi Katalin, For most it only lasts a few days. BUT ... ONLY is not a good word to use - some people feel the pain so badly and it's like a bad tooth ache that won't go away. Have you tried the natural relievers ... peppermint tea, de-gas tabs (these don't work on the gas trapped in your abdominal cavity, but they do help with any pressure that may be coming from inside your tummy with trapped wind irritating your vagus nerve), hot packs, wheat bags, sitting upright and still for ten minutes. It will go but some people have it for a while. Horrible huh! Bev Send instant messages to your online friends http://au.messenger.

Hi Katalin,

I didn't mean to trivialise YOUR pain, pain is pain, and it's just awful, espicially the knife in the shoulders type. Just rest assured that it's a normal by-product of lap-surgery, is hard to shift, but will be gone eventually, then it's onwards and downwards for you! If you weren't pre-warned about this, or had it mentioned trivially in passing by your doctor, you have every right to feel alarmed and worried. Call him back for reassurance, or at least let it be known "for the record", or your case notes, that you are suffering so.

Meanwhile, feel free to vent to us all, that's what we're here for. Some of us have been there, so we all commiserate.

I reckon the hot wheat pack was by far the best though, along with the pacing about.

Hugs,

(A)

Hi Bev and All,

thanks for all the advice, I guess the most important I am reading

in all of them is that this will go away! Can't wait. :-)

I don't mind the walking bit, but this STP seems to start up when I

move or stand up. If I lie, it is fine, but when I get up, it stabs.

I am sipping the peppermint tea now but in any case, as I said

before, it is already easier just from knowing that this is not here

forever.

Will get some of the panadol happening, that may help, as well.

thanks again!

  • 9 months later...

I was banded on 8-8 and have been experiencing shoulder pain ever since. I can tell you that it does ease up it is not gone but it is getiing bettet. Walk Walk Walk I also found out that if i drank more than a couple of ounces it make the shoulder pain worse. Gas X didn't work for me either. As far as the liquid stage, it gets easier day by day. Please don't cheat...it is very important. I rode to get my surgery with a lady who snuck in a couple of noodles with her broth and she was on her way back because her band had slipped. This was enough motivation for me. I went to GNC and got the whey protein shake by pro performance in the chocolate flavor and mixed it with water and it tastes great. I feel your pain with the shoulder though it has brought me to tears many of times. MAK DOB 08-08-07 237/218/160sandy

I have no plans on cheating. I would be so scared that I would mess

something up. How do you know if your band has slipped? I was told

by a friend to take Gas X with me to the hospital. If it's not

working for most people, what should I take? I get my band on

Friday. ! So excited. Kim

HI Everyone,

I wanted to tell you all about Trader Joe's whey protein powder mix.

I've used it off and on when dieting and it's pretty good.

They have chocolate and vanilla flavors and a soy protein as well.

Mixed with water it is 120 calories and provides 17 grams of protein

per serving.

It's low sugar for those looking to control your sugar intake

although I use a little Stevia powder to sweeten the soy type because

I really didn't care for the soy.

I believe it's about 8.99 for a small can of 14 or 17 servings.

Good luck to all.

I do feel pretty good. I am starting the third phase. She had known her band had slipped because she couldn't eat anything...not even swallow water. I had a lot of hunger pains when I first started but when I let go of the jello and vitamin water to stop my sugar roller coaster, they went away. I drink a lot of water. For the first to phases I would drink 1/2 of a protein shake in the morning, then lots of water, a yogurt for lunch, then more water , and then soup and the other 1/2 of my chocolate protein drink for dessert. (plus I am a GM of and Italian Restaurant so I was around food for 12 hours.) Keep yourself as busy as possible and you won't get hunger pains out of boredom sandy doyle <doylesandy@...> wrote: thank you for that advice, yes it is easing up but wowthat seems along time for the shoulder pain. Sandy,

It's sold by Trader Joe's and the brand name is actually Trader

Darwin.

It has all the vitamins and is low fat and low sodium. The 8.99 can

has 17 servings per can. I often add some fat free yogart just to get

in a little more protein and calcium.

Good luck,

Robin

Sorry you're having trouble! I don't see much chance at all that this

is related to the band at all. That type of oaiun is not the typical

band nerve pain we can get with overeating, etc.

Still, if you have not had regular fluoros along the way, I'd have one

as a good assessment, as it's due anyway.

What do others here think?
