Guest guest
I only know from taking to my Dr. they will only replace one disc, and you have to be very careful after surgery, it can blow to one side or another, and when it does, it takes the cord with it. for more than one disc, he will not do it. Also my Dr. wasn't happy with the results of those who have had the surgery. Hoolihanma or Nessa
Guest guest
Hi, and Welcome Maddy, I'm not sure what to say. My spine is a mess from C-1 to S! I haven't tried surgery and have no plans for it until a post-mortum becomes possible As you probably found out, after a lamenectomy, or fusion, the vertebra above and below the site wear faster making more fusions necessary! Have you explored alternatives to having a disc replacement? Have you had several referrals about your condition? It is very important to consult more than one doc; each doc offers only his specialty to treat your complaint. Thus, a surgeon uses surgery... Of course, most of them dummy-up if you ask about 'other' treatments! It kinda makes you wonder how they can call themselves professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide. Know I am praying for you. GBY > > Hello everyone. I am new to this group but not new to back problems. >

Guest guest
I am going into New York because I found a doc who is trained in what I need. This is my second opinion. I have another doc in the city and find them to be better than the ones in my state. --------------------------------- Photos Got holiday prints? Contact me privately for the name of a spine specialist in New Jersey I think you should consult with before you make a final decision about your back. He's fixed mistakes and failed backs done by surgeons with presumed peerless reputations in the field located in Manhattan. Even other doctors go to him (that's how I found him,) his rep is that good. Going into the city is no guarantee of excellence. http://thebacklog.blogspot.com/
Guest guest
I am actually going to the dr. tomorrow for an exam to determine if i require a second spinal fusion. Had one surgery august of 2004. Pain ever since. not getting any better. I dont think that I would try Disc replacement as I have heard many horror stories from my surgeon on the issue. Of course, I wouldnt reccomend Fusion either as it did me absolutely no good. Good Luck to you. maddy643 <maddy643@...> wrote: Hello everyone. I am new to this group but not new to back problems. Guest guest
I never said going into the city was going to be a guarentee I am keeping my options open and have seen four docs in New Jersey and thought I would explore other docs. my email address is maddy643@.... I could always use another opinion and if you think so highly of this doc than maybe I could give him a try. Thank you
Guest guest
If you do not mind telling me what is wrong with you back. Have you had many surgries or epidural injections. I have not made a final desicion regarding my back I am just keeping my options open and getting advice from diffrent docs. I have had a laminectomy, numerous epidural injections, an idet, and a fusion and countless rounds of physical therapy. I was just hoping someone could give me so positive info instead of questioning me about what I am doing. I am also trying to learn from other peoples experiances and not get told what I should and should not do.
Guest guest
Thank you for the info you know on the disc replacement. I have not heard good or bad about it that is why I am here. Good luck at the docs and please keep me informed on what your doc says. I would not want another fusion either. The one I had was not fun and did not work. I was in pain and wound up herniating another disc 6 weeks after the surgery. oh well I guess I will just have to learn to deal with the pain. Because you didn't quote anything from a previous post, and although I'm not completely sure, I think you might be directing these remarks at me If you'll check out the URL I put at the close of all my posts, you can read about my on-going experiences with my bad back. My surgeon's name and his location are there, in the " How It Started " section. You'll get to see some nifty photos of my fusion, my nuts and bolts, as well as my artificial disc. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask away! http://thebacklog.blogspot.com/

Guest guest
hello, my neurosurgeon and i just had this discussion about disc replacement and he said " no way " , he seems to think that it is a very bad surgery. i really like my surgeon, his name is dr. digicientos, out of roosevelt hospital in nyc. i wish you much look. i too am opting for no surgery and work closely with my psiatrist (pain doctor) who is also incredible. and am now working with my physical therapy. anything not to do surgery. marsha
Guest guest
My neurosurgeon in City New York, was one of the first in New York to do the disc replacement, he now doesn't recommend them. In the long run, they don't work. If you over do, you can push them out also, except the replacement takes the cord with it. Doctors keep trying to help, but they can only do so much.
