Guest guest
Doug: Was it really 1993? LOL--I just had to ask! I went to the clinic where I am going to get my xolair and saw the doctor there, today. I thought it would be a cursory, routine checkup on me, he would read the records from my allergist and that would be it. Was I wrong. It may be another four weeks before I begin. Because I am no longer on prednisone all of the time, but only have to take it about twice a year (some years 3) and then only one round of it, and because my asthma has been stable for several years (has improved, not gotten worse) he did two spirometry tests on me today--one before a neb treatment and one after. Then he is going to be out of town next week, I am out of town the following week, so it will be July 18 before I can see him again. In the meantime, I will start a round of prednisone the week before I see him and the day I come in, he will do another spirometry test to check for improvement in my breathing (today there was 20% improvement--one of my better numbers on this test). He will then tell me if Medicare has approved paying for me to take the shots. I was really impressed with this doctor as his clinic is one of the asthma/allergy research centers in SA. So in addition to treating asthmatic patients, he has research groups also. He did say that one of the patients who was in today had vastly improved on xolair, but had taken herself off of her other meds before she was really ready and was having some trouble. Education--education--education. I also liked this doctor because he is still young enough to continue to be really excited about helping patients (even one of my age), he talked to me, not at me, and he explained some other things about my condition that neither of my other two docs had explained. At any rate, my visit there today was encouraging. Of course, I was also feeling well--not even any wheezing in my lungs. But he knew from reading my records that today was an unusual day for me. I have enough episodes for it to be considered persistent. I told him that when it first hit me hard twenty years ago there would have been no question in any one's mind. Now it is just wait and see...... Glad you are still doing well. How is the neck? Adah uca79iii <uca79iii@...> wrote: BJ, I am flattered LOL! Guest guest
Hi Doug: You said you started Xolair in 1993 but, you also said if anyone wants to ask me questions about my three years on Xolair can. Which is it three years or thirteen years? I didn't know Xolair was around in 1993. Have you had a problem with hearing loss? I'm having a big problem with this for the past 6 months or so. She has been asthmatic all her life but only has small attacks every once and a while. She uses 2 puffs of combivent and she is fine. Must be nice! sigh! Several years ago, I had 2 cataract surgeries. I was still waiting for them to heal up when we went to the grocery store. Mom couldn't hear me and I couldn't see. We made a funny pair. " Hey maw, what does this label say? " " What? " " I said, Maw, what does this label say " " Speak up, you know I can't hear " People thought we were fighting because I was talking so loud. hahahaah Doug
