Guest guest
Exterminators were contracted to spray all areas of my work environment once a month. I refused to let them spray my office. I got that all the time, " this stuff wouldn't hurt anybody " . Now correct me if I'm wrong, but it KILLS creepy crawly things! I'm sorry but I have a real problem believing it does not effect healthy people, let alone asthmatics! Guest guest
Doug, I would call them and let them know what happened to you. Just so they hopefully learn and do not do that ever again. I hope you re feeling better. Guest guest
I found out I was allergic to that stuff at age 11. Ever since then, I would have to spend the night elsewhere when we had the xterminator come. In my own home as an adult, I use the kind where we just have them spray the outside. Also, I get to make the decisions about these types of contracts at work, so it's not a problem there either. That stuff is VERY dangerous. Some companies use a different type now that is LESS irritating, but.... Guest guest
Hi Doug: Your right about the roaches, I think boric acid is a good thing to use to get rid of roaches. Also, ventilate the house thoroughly after the exterminator leaves. Good Luck, Kathy uca79iii <uca79iii@...> wrote: Last Saturday, the exterminator came and sprayed our house for bugs. Guest guest
It may not cause asthma but it is a BIG Trigger for asthmatics. It is for me I stay away from the so-called bug man when he comes to my house. I am friends with him and I say to many people before you spray, Let me get away. Even these people who have to put on calognes and perfumes trigger me. Sr. Volz, C.R. I leave the house about 7:30 am and don't get back till 8:30 that evening. MAYBiE, it will be better by that time. My wife is NOT a bug fan. She hates those critters, especially spiders. Roaches are NASTY! UGH! My 9 year old chihuahua is a mouser. All you have to do is say the word " mouse " and he goes nuts. I don't know if mice are triggers are not but they sure do bring disease and get into your food closets. Doug
Guest guest
Hi, Doug, Actually, they do have an affect on our asthma because of their traces that they leave behind. It is not good. I had a classroom in a day care that were many and my asthma was made worse. I was nebing every 3 hours and my co-workers were getting mad at me because I would not come back until I was finished and some times it would take longer that my break or lunch hour. So that was a mark against me. And they used it to their advantage. Well I am not working for them and am very happpy driving bus for Resurrection High School. I would put boxes in tupperware blue or colored bins then they can't get in and set traps with peanut butter on it or I heard a whole peanut works very well. Hope you will continue to breath easy. I have heard complaints that I am at the doctor a lot, use a neb during the day and take a lot of medicinces. When I see them cough, hack and sniff due to allergies and sinus infections, I really don't understand. Some of them are just plain miserable, can't sleep at night and are always sick. They have the attitude: " I don't need to go to the doctor, this will pass and I will be ok. " Whenever I hear them gripe, I sniff with my " unclogged sinuses, " breathe with my open lungs and say: " I feel GRRRRRRREAT and I got a full 8 hours of sleep last night. I pay 1000.00 a month for my medical insurance, I am going to USE it and feel better!!! " People just don't understand what we severe asthmatics have to go through just to breathe. Sigh! Guest guest
I have been fortunate to be in job situations where the people I worked with were very supportive of when I had doctor's appointments or even when I had to bring my neb machine to work (before the days of the smaller machines). I taught school, so I would use my neb at lunch or during my conference period if needed. When I taught in public school, those first few years my asthma was so bad, I would sometimes have to leave in the middle of the morning, or at noon, and the last year I taught in public school, I used up all of my leave time and had my salary docked for the additional days I had to be out. Then I left public school because I was offered a job at our church school. While I sometimes had to be off, I never had to be out more than the leave days we were given and by the time I retired from there, I was paid for days I had accumulated. I think probably the combination of a newer building with no mold, different kind of stress, spiritual support and prayer all helped in addition to the fact that I saw my doctor often and he kept working with the new medicines that came out to help control my asthma. I still had many days when it was hard to take a clear breath, but the last five years I was there, I was in a brand new building with a great a/c system, and inside my room, I rarely had any problems. Gotta go--almost time for me to go get my second xolair shot! Happy free breathing!
