Hang in there Pamela. It took me a full year to feel the effect and I really

wasn't convinced it was working until I stopped taking it. It's definitely not

a cure but it surely helps. I've gone from using the rescue inhaler 4x per day

to " as needed. " An inhaler will last me about 3 months now. My next step is to

go from Advair 500/50 to just flovent. I'm working on reducing my meds every

six months -- so far so good.

Another thing you should consider - and I'd recommend this to everyone - is to

exercise as much as possible (I realize that can be a tall order for an

asthmatic) and eat a healthy diet. My diet is based on the book Super Foods Rx,

by Pratt. Controlling asthma goes much deeper than loading up on meds.

Simple things like fish, nuts, fruits and veggies go a long way to helping

asthmatics and improving your health in general. Many of the foods in this book

have anti-inflammatory properties such as fish and nuts. Here is the link.

Enjoy!

It's nice to see someone else with a low IGE and on

here's hoping!

that's exactly what happened to me -- my sinuses would just clear up

dramatically. After about a year my sinuses got considerably worse but I began

feeling the effect in my lungs. Pretty weird but I'll take that trade off any

day.

Hi and Pam:

I read you two have low IGE. So do I, I'm wondering how many other Xolair

users have low IGE??????

I've been getting Xolair injections for two years now, twice a month 375MG.

In 2004 I had four infections, had big time steroids, antibiotics etc. In 2005 I

had eight infections. The doctor tested my antibodies (only with my insisting)

and we found my antibodies were low too. The immunologist recommended either

anti body infusion or another pneumonia shot. I got the shot and the antibodies

went up. I concerned because you can't get the shot every year and my medical

records show I had it in 2003 and yet I had the infections I mentioned in 2004

and 2005.

Are there others out there with this problem and could Xolair be causing

it????

Kathy,

I've been on the shot for roughly 20 mos. I take 150 the first two weeks,

then 75 the second two weeks, and then I keep alternating. I used to be on 150

but it only seemed to last 2 weeks. I get a 75 booster mid-way through the

month and it seems to be helping.

When I first started taking Xolair I noticed a huge increase in the number of

infections I was catching. In the first 7 months I had 5 upper respitory

infections when otherwise I'd get 1 per year, typically. I asked my Pulmo about

it and he said he wasn't aware of that being one of the side effects but I

looked it up and 23% of the patients from the original study reported an

increase in infections. I couldn't find any data stating whether that number

was statistically different from the control group. After being on the shot for

a little over a year the infections have subsided. I have one now but that's

only because my 3 year old sneezed in my face while he was sick ;o( Otherwise,

I've been fine for the past 8ish months.

It only seems logical that anything that messes with your immune system will

cause problems but very few people are reporting side effects. Other than the

infections I'm tolerating the meds very well. Supposedly, Xolair contains a

substance that your body manufactures naturally, except Asthmatics seem to be

deficient. I haven't heard of it reducing your anti-body count.

Dear :

Thanks a lot for your reply. You gave me a lot of info. I'm going to see what

I can come up with concerning all this. I'm going to talk to my Pulmo and Asthma

doctors.

Thanks again,

Kathy
