Guest guest
And it's not clear what surgery you had, or how long ago, and or what pain meds you were taking, how often, and the dosage etc. In a message dated 3/1/2010 11:17:00 P.M. Guest guest
MJ, Pain management Dr's vary in terms of what and how much medication they will prescribe. Some states are more conservative than others. If you feel you need pain medicaton its probably the best place to go but be willing to try other therapies too. The drugs may help the pain but they dont help to heal the problem. Depending on what that is it may be possible to improve with time. Guest guest
MJ Do you have any history of drug addiciton? Alcohol? Most surgeons are happy to treat the " acute " pain. Once the pain becomes chronic or dysfunctional you should definately see a pain management doc. When one enters pain management to get the most out of it you have to commit whole heartedly. Guest guest
Hi, You mention that your surgery was screwed up, how long ago did you have surgery? How do you know that it got screwed up, have you had a follow up MRI since surgery to find out why you are in pain? If your current Surgeon does not want to do the MRI, you need to go for a second opinion so that way someone can tell you what went wrong. Pain Management Doctor's do provide medication for people in pain, but that is not all they do. Depending on what the problem is the PM Doc might suggest epidural injections, facet blocks, PT, etc.... So you need to come in to the PM Doc with some kind of diagnosis. IE: I had a spinal fusion in 07, the fusion failed, this was confirmed by another Neurosurgeon that I went to for a second opinion, he then send me to pain management, after 4 more surgeries to fix the issues, many injections, PT, facet blocks, etc. I am on pain meds now, but there was a diagnosis and a consultation with another surgeon. You need to get your ducks in a row, and then see what a PM Doc can do for you. Take care and good luck with the process.... > > I have had surgery but now docters don't want to give me any pain meds but I still hurt!!! Guest guest
MJ, What kind of surgery did you have? When did you have it? Did the MRI after whatever surgery you had show the herniated disk at S1?
