Feel free to read through or search all the previous posts. We have

only had one person report hearing loss as a potential side effect.

Everyone has to do his/her own risk-benefit analysis before deciding

to start Xolair. For me, the long-term, known side effects of

taking as much prednisone as I was taking were a far greater risk.

If Xolair was going to help me get well to the extent I could stop

taking prednisone so frequently, I was going to try it. I have been

on Xolair 2.5 years. Instead of having to take a monthly taper of

pred and/or take 20mg daily, I now need a taper about twice per

year, which is the new frequency of my asthma flares (as opposed to

twice a month prior to Xolair). Also, I have a much greater quality

of life and I am stronger overall.

Good luck in making your decision,

Addy

Hi....yeah...we do not know what the long term side

effects of Xolair might be, but my respirologist

responded to my exact same question to her (re: side

effect of Xolair); with.... " we do know what the long

term side effects of Prednisone are, and it isn't

good " .

With any medication, you have to outweigh the risks

vs. the benefits. I know a lot of people in this

group have benefited greatly from Xolair and have been

able to get off long-term use of Prednisone. Myself,

I've only been on Xolair for 4 months, so I'm hoping

that by this coming fall (my worst time), I won't need

Prednisone.

To whom wrote this email.

I have been on Xolair for almost 3 years and am now being taken off of some of

my 8-9 medications. I asked my doctor about my asthma and she said that I have

asthma and that I have had it since I was a child. She says that this

medication should have been given to me a year or so before I started. She says

it is the best thing I could do. I have been hospitalized for at least 2 weeks

and on big doses of predisone. One year I was on at least 30 mgs for the year I

would get ready to come down and would have a major attack. Now I have not been

in the hospital for over a year and off of predisone for a few months. I have

had no side affects that I can tell or the doctor can tell since I have been on

Xolair.

I would go with your doctor and put your trust in him or her.

As Always,

Hello -

I want to use Zolair. My doctor have called me and ansked me if I want

to make an appointment to come and have the shot. But I'm very

concerned about this drug. There is no drug out there that doesn't

have side effects. NO ONE knows about the longterm side effects of

this drug. I have searched, haven't been able to find any. I have

done this test that my doctor told me to get and my " IgE level " was

around 500, which is pretty high "

Any information would help.

Hi Tahereh:

I've been on Xolair for two years now. Have had no side effects. I did the

same thing I looked for them, but couldn't find any I guess it's too soon.

however, I'm fine and the medicine is a God send.

Good Luck

During the trial I believe 0.3% of patients in the control group developed

various cancers while 0.5% on the people taking Xolair developed cancer. A

further study conducted by MD determined that there was no connection

between Xolair and cancer. That was a relief to hear but even if there was a

connection I would still take the drug. I'd rather spend the next 20 years free

from asthma and develop cancer than spend the next 30, 40, 50 years being

miserable and having no cancer. Given that choice, I would take Xolair. But

that's just me. You have to decide for youself. Best of luck!

don't eat any of it of course but when I am baking and I get some of the batter

not sure if a little that gets on my skin is bad. I know, probably a really dumb

Okay then...thanks Bee! Glad I asked because I didn't want to start stressing

about it. :)
